Big congratulations!!!!!!! Now, it's Colorado, San Jose and DC United's turn. This is great news!!!!!
I dont understand, i'm a New York, they say i'm supposed to support the Metros... yet, they move farther and farther from me... I mean, i've always liked the Metros, but its hard when i have to drive hours to see a game. [whining] Oh Cosmos, please come back, please come back Cosmos, NEW YORK needs you. [/whining] Peru y tu?
With the metros and nick sakiewicz reputation, i'm not going to get excited until I see a shovel moving dirt.
Well, if its any consolation, now that they are moving to Harrison....it'll be much easier for New Yorkers to get there.....MASS TRANSIT..... and I guess a bit harder from me...considering I live 2 miles from Giants Stadium and 5 miles from Harrison.....but hey....its worth it.....
Not to rain on the parade, but how is this really any different from what has been said for a LONG time. Namely that within the next 30 days there will be a real announcement. Is there something about this particular source that makes it more reliable? I'm asking only because I don't know myself and I'm sincerely looking for an answer. I'm not trying to be pissy about it.
Of course, with our luck, the shovel will hit Jimmy Hoffa and construction will be delayed . Seriously - about time.
I agree with this sentiment...although I'll settle for someone besides Nick, like an AEG official or part of the real estate developers saying that it's a done deal. Just something to confirm that it really can't get derailed.
No, there's nothing different. Nick has always stated the goal is 2006 to people both on-the-record and off-the-record.
Except for in 2002 when he said 2004 or 2001 when he said 2003. The fact that Harrison still has paperwork to sign scares me. Maybe it's routine - but nothing has been routine as far as this project is concerned. Until a construction crew is committed - and dollars are being spent - I can't get excited about Nick's conference call comments. Nothing against Dan or anyone who might be privvy to the real scoop.
Congratulations!       Indeed! Three down for AEG (LA, Chicago, MetroStars), two to go (San Jose, DC) - while Kroenke takes care of Colorado, of course. -G
Let's not forget about Uncle Lamar who got the whole thing going. One down (Columbus) and one on the way (Dallas). Congratulations Metro fans! I hope this is not another false start.
You're right... btw, are Kansas City and New England planning on building soccer-specific stadiums as well? -G
Late March? Is that putting us in the 30-60 day range? Everyone, please stop congratulating us until the official announcement is made, this is only Nick talking after all. Although I believe the deal will go through, I'm thinking it will be more like 2007 rather then 2006 opening. Knowing all the delays that already took place, who's to say that this is the final hurdle. Something always comes up, especially in New Jersey. Peru fan, It will probably be just as easy for you to get to Harrison as it is to get to Giants Stadium.
Probably not in the short-term future since both teams enjoy favorable leases in their respective NFL football stadiums. OK metros11, I hereby rescind my congratulations. I will return when the shovel hits the dirt...hopefully sometime this summer.
I heard Nick on the press conference today, and it all sounds legit. Granted, the city has to sign off on the final paperwork, but it sounds as if the paperwork is being prepared with the input of those who need to sign off on it. Another encouraging note is the fact that Metro is already planning to move it's offices to the Harrison site next year, in advance of the actual completion of the stadium. He also mentioned that they are far enough along to be soliciting stadium naming-rights interest, of which he claims is even greater than anticipated. I think Nick's been beat up here and elsewhere enough not to risk another flogging as the result of another too-optimistic announcement.
