St. Louis Soccer!! I am so happy that we finally have a team. I found out in a one-paragraph mention in an article on the last page of the Post sports section yesterday. I'm just sorry that I have to be somewhere this weekend and can't be there for their opening games. I live about a minute or two from Sportport, so that makes it even better. Their schedule is up at pdl.uslsoccer.com, but that's all I know right now.
At the risk of running afoul the BS PC Gestapo, congratulations to the Strikers for winning their inagural match last night 4-0 over Wisconsin. As much as any city in this country, St. Louis is the heart and the history of the American game. May this be the first step toward the highest level for this criminally underserved city.
I agree Thanks for the nice talk about the Lou. We do have one thing going for us as the heart and history of the game: They're going to film a major soccer movie here this summer called "The Game of Their Lives" about the US men's team that upset England in the World Cup in 1950 (?, I forget which year that was). Half of that starting squad were from St. Louis.
