Re: Team's Working name: St Louis United Downside: Common Racial Slur Upside: We hear alot of Ace of Spades played. p.s. If the logo had been designed by a D&D player it would have been of a Warrior holding up his shield to block magic missle.
Re: St Louis United? I'm sorry you feel that way. I really like the blue & green tones. It's unique. What other team uses those colors? It's something to call our own.
This reminds of a weird story as well. I use to work at Best Buy in South County and we had this old German guy always come in and talk to the computer techs and salesmen. He had a voice like someone had bayoneted him in the throat. So we started to call him Dr. Death. One day the joke went to another level though. The doctor came in with a shorter sleeved t-shirt and right there on his bicep were SS bolts. That was weird to see.
Re: St Louis United? Unique isn't always a good thing. Like Virginia Tech...someone out there thought hmm...no one uses orange and maroon together. That's because they look awful together. Blue and green are just not very good complementary colors, particularly when they're both dark or light. Perhaps a light blue and dark green or vice versa. But they're too close on the ole color wheel.
Re: St Louis United? Roma disagrees But then again isn't your alma mater unique? Named after a city it moved from 3 counties away and named the Demon Deacons (cause they are prevalent)
Re: St Louis United? ah, i forgot about roma's ugly unis too. i'm sure someone out there does use dark blue and dark green though. it still doesn't make it right. and the two tones of green doesn't help either. about wake, it was named after the forest in wake county (where the school used to be until 1956). the town where the school was is called wake forest, but the school is now in winston-salem. and yes, we have a very unique nickname. if StL is going for perfect colors, they should just take Wake's. old gold and black. best in the world.
Re: St Louis United? We're familiar with the black and gold. Check Mizzou's colors. It would put us too close to the Crew colors though.
Re: St Louis United? Um, if they want the best colors in the world then they should be red and white!
Re: St Louis United? Hate it. It was more fun to be original. More NC University trivia - did you know that Duke family offered Elon the money before Trinity, but Elon's regents turned it down because it was "dirty" tobacco money? OK, sorry StL guys. No more off topic
Re: Team's Working name: St Louis United If they did want to go with a gambling name then they could call the team St. Louis Ace's.
Re: St Louis United? I see no insentive for St. Louis to go with a "gambling" name. Bad connotations with gambling (see NBA) and gambling isn't near the top of my list of "things I think of when I think St. Louis". and green is an awesome color. Bring on the Knights!
Re: St Louis United? As for colors, I say that black and gray are the best. Navy blue and gray would also be great. I like green less, but if we use green, it should be green and black or green and white.
Re: Team's Working name: St Louis United We already have the St. Louis' Aces. They're the pro tennis team here.
That is so weird, considering that during WW2 Bayern was persecuted because their president, who had fled the country, was Jewish. I'd have understood it more if the guy had objected to a Feyenoord jersey, but Bayern?
Re: Team's Working name: St Louis United Well then they will have to scratch that one from the list. I sort of like my idea of St. Louis Westerners. I know they are more central than LA and Colorado, but St. Louis is known as the "Gateway to the West" and a lot of people traveled through the town while heading west. Or they could go more regional and choose to represent the whole midwest and call themselves Midwest Ham United in honor of the pig industry. They could have the unofficial nickname the porkers.
Re: St Louis United? Name ideas for (ridicule) discussion: St. Louis Raviolis St. Louis Ted Drewes (StL's answer to Red Bull) St. Louis Bishops (slightly inferior, but just as important as the Cardinals) St. Louis Sheep (slightly inferior, but just as important as the Rams) St. Louis Sr. Billikens (afterall, SLUH is the Jrs, SLU is the ___ Billikens) St. Louis (Urban) Sprawlers St. Louis Bottlers St. Louis 1950 (For 1/2 of the 1950 WC squad) St. Louis Laroquettes [sic] (For the ill-fated sitcom starring John Laroquette [sic] that was located in StL) Just think... if we're the Laroquettes, the supporters group could be something like "Night Court" or "Laroquette's Laddies." The possibilities are endless! Anyone else have some absolute crap names?
As one who fears Chuck Norris, I am also offended on the grounds of the potential ridicule of Walker, Texas Ranger. As a driver of a Chevy, I'm offended by calling the team by the former make of a Ford truck. As someone with half a brain, I'm offended by my own offense.
Re: St Louis United? St. Louis' answer to RedBull is SKI. If you haven't tried it check it out sometime.
