Yes, this is wonderful news. I know St. Louis USL teams have stumbled in the past, but I'm hoping against hope that this time will be different. I'm also hoping that the "obstacles" to playing at SLU aren't in the minds of Daryl Doran and Patrick Barry...in other words, I'm hoping that they haven't written it off simply because SLU is located in the central city. I've heard rumors that this new team will be playing at the SportPort in Maryland Heights, which strikes me as bad for a couple of reasons: --it's located at one end of the metro area, pretty far from the heavy concentrations of fans in South County, South City, and Illinois. --it's primarily an amateur rec facility, not a stadium. It seems to me that if a team plays at the same complex that 8-year-olds play at, fans won't really take it seriously as "our team." It'll be just another adult amateur team. Hermann Stadium is centrally-located and feels more like a stadium. I hope hope HOPE that the team winds up playing there, but I'll support it wherever it plays.
this is good news. Hopefully the attendence will be decent and they can finally get a MLS or A-League team.
jason, not playing at hermann would most likely be a money issue, the team isn't going to have the largest budget in the world, so if they have a decent difference in price for the two fields... they'll probably go to the cheaper, thinking that attendance will be about the same at both mutts... there is no place for an mls team to play in st. louis i'd imagine that an a-league team would be a slap in the face to st. louis... but pdl is a nice start
