Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions with it being adidas, im not sure what styles there are to choose from but if we are to go with horizantal stripes i think it would look much better if the whole jersey was striped; instead of just inside the sleeves. i like the all green jersey or all blue jersey, and then maybe a blue/green shirt with white shorts.......... thats my opinion......they are looking great
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions my favorite is still KD's vertical "cross" design that resembles the England kits. But what's up with the shade of green? A little too "snot" green for me.
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions Celtic-style green and white hoops are a bad idea (and not just because I'm a Rangers fan). Their kits are extremely recognizable, and using that scheme would clearly be some sort of tribute to the team. Given the divisiveness and sectarianism that have plagued Old Firm games, neither Rangers nor Celtic would be good choices to align with unless you want to alienate other fans.
If you don't mid an outsider married to a St Louis girl commenting: My name suggestion is "1950". Remind everyone where most of the US team that beat England came from.
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions Exactly. I had an idea the other day- what do people think about a Juventus- or Newcastle-style horizontal stripes? I realized that nobody had that in MLS...
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions Juve and Newcastle have vertical stripes. As for nobody in MLS having them- see Chivas USA.
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions I'm a big fan of Newcastle-style vertical stripes. It would really stand out in the MLS and still look classy. Plus with blue and green colors it wouldn't look like anybody in Europe either
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions Yeah, not only did I neglect to specify black ones, I meant vertical when I said horizontal. Still though, my point was obvious. Thank you for seeing my point as it was truly intended
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions Didn't colorado at one point have verticle blue and green stripes?
Re: OFFICIAL :: Jersey Suggestions they definitely had Inter styled Black and Blue stripes: They may have had Green and Blue stripes at one time.
Is it possible that this blue/green color scheme that St. Louis United uses is just because it's an MLS initiative and blue/green are MLS' organizational colors? I really don't like these shades together. I'd rather see the gold of the fleur-de-lis used, now that the Galaxy dropped it.
apologies if you have seen this but check the last line... i take this as a 'trial balloon' to see how St. Luis United is received in the area soccer community. http://www.stlcommercemagazine.com/archives/september2007/soccer.html
St Louis United? That's like having two teams called th Red Sox in the same league. I guess the term "originality" isn't in their vocabulary.
I guess DC was "original" when they "thought" of it? Did they copy from Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, I don't know there are so many Uniteds it could have been any of them. Or maybe Cooper choose it because, unlike some, are actually "uniting" (Illinois with St. L)
None the less, one good thing about MLS so far has been every team having a (league-wide, at least,) unique name. Even Dallas and Toronto have the FC in different places.
Wow... St Louis United... Can we think of some American Names...get a list together and perhaps shoot these dudes an email... St Louis Gatekeepers....(debatable), or St Louis Archers...(even more so)... sound a bit more American than "United"...Any ideas?!?!? SimonAllen World Soccer Wrap PS... That logo is a bit wacky reminds me of "Birth of A Nation"!!!
If Galaxy is an "American" name, please sign me up for a euro-name. Birth of a Nation? Really are we doing this again?
I thought the Galaxy was a dumb name until I realized Real Madrid are the Galaticos, and that made it better. Here is my thought at this moment. Having an international name can help in the international market. I wonder what the opinion of the name LA Galaxy and NYRB is in England. But having an American name helps....well in America. (ok, that paragraph is a "duh" statement, but stay with me) I might suggest Cooper to do this: Give the team a Euro name AND a nickname (instead of waiting for the fans to "develop" a name). You could appease both camps. AC St. Louis or St. Louis United and refer to them as the Knights officially from the start. I think I saw this floating around on some other threads, and the more I think about it the more I think it would help overall.
Like... Manchester Red Sox? West Ham Red Sox? Newcastle Red Sox? Sheffield Red Sox? Leeds Red Sox? "United" is just a descriptive term for a team like "FC", not a nickname like "Red Sox".
If the team is going to be in Collinsville, then perhaps a tasteful nod to the Cahokians would be in order for a name. Not call the Cahokians per se (and for gods sake no fake dancing Indians, or John Wayne movie war chants) but maybe something a bit more universal and ambiguous, in reference to the famous mounds. Something like the Falcons or the Thunderbirds. And I don't know if it's sacrilegious, but the Cahokian spider symbol worn on pendants would make a pretty bad-ass shield.
