I don't care if it's called that or not - but do you know something - has Zak told you they have a prohibition against it or something?
That's a discussion that's already been done to death in these forums. No city flag colors because there's already too much red in MLS.
my girlfriend actually works in the marketing department for Nestle Purina and is on the Tidy Cats account. I just ran this by her, and she laughed, but said, "doubtful." Obviously, she isn't the one who would make the decision, but from things she's said in the past, I agree.
I'm pretty sure MLS has a policy against having alcohol sponsors on the jerseys. From what I heard, all they want is at least $500K a year and no liquor, beer, or wine sponsors.
My bad. I guess thats what thinking logically will do. Turns out liquor is way worse than beer. Oh well.
Good call. And I still like the wanderers/adventurers/explorers theme for a name. It's a strong illusion to St. Louis' central role in US Expansion and Western Exploration and suggests the regions relationship with the Mississippi River. Some great synonyms for Wanderers: St. Louis Gadabouts St. Louis Gypsys St. Louis Madcaps St. Louis Pioneers St. Louis Ramblers St. Louis Rovers St. Louis Rangers St. Louis Rogues St. Louis Scouts St. Louis Vagabonds St. Louis Voyagers
I couldn't find a real commercial, so enjoy this spec commercial with the tastykake jingle.
Wait, seriously?! When? How do you know this? I actually quite like that name, despite it's more common illusion to French Canada and/or the Great Lakes. But it would not be inappropriate for a team in St. Louis.
uspto.gov - then use the TESS form You can also see what the league wanted DC to be called And that the Inter Toronto movement was strong
Did they copyright Voyagers with any team in mind? I don't like it. Give me my Knights!!!! I would live with United or AC. no FC please, already 2 of those.
If I remember correctly, the Twin Cities was once a priority market for MLS. Possibly, the hope was for the "Minnesota Voyagers," as that would actually be the most appropriate application for a team in the United States.
I think you all are thinking too big on the potential sponsorship deals. I would imagine the stadium will have a decently recognizable sponsor, but for the kits, I think we will be looking at something pretty small, and not necessarily from Saint Louis. MLS kit sponsorship just screams for a small start up dot com. You get decent play across the country for a relatively low price and get to be associated with something new and exciting not only with the team, but with StL in general. Anyway, I do think Cooper will get a pretty good price for the kits from those kinds of companies, so I doubt larger more established companies will think it is worth it (although I hope I am wrong). Also, I really doubt AB will be heavily involved in this team. Why would it? It already own the Saint Louis market and if people will be drinking beer at the match, we all already know it will be Bud Light. I think they only bought the naming rights to Busch III because of the tradition. I do think Wachovia is a very likely sponsor, especially for the stadium. It makes them local right away, and I do think they are looking at Saint Louis as a secondary hub for them. The Wac ... could easily be added to Busch, The Ed, and ... well, the Kiel (sorry Scottrade, it will always be the Kiel to me).
I think express scripts falls into the category well. They offer a service that can be used across the entire country, but are still on the lesser known side. My only question is, "Do soccer fans have that many prescriptions?"
