The final drew an announced crowd of 5,300 fans -- the smallest crowd
for the Division I final since 1991.

it looks like Maryland got the best HS Soccer player
coming out of New Jersey for the 04 season

Stephen King, New Jersey Player of the year, among the top players in the nation at his age has committed verbally to the Universy of Maryland, and over the Thanksgiving weekend shined at the Olympic Development Program Inter-Regional Camp in California.

Wingert (Babylon, N.Y.) wins the Herman award, caps off a tremendous season by winning college soccer's top individual honor. In 2003, he helped lead St. John's to the NCAA title game, where the Red Storm lost 2-1 to Indiana. St. John's finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in the final NSCAA/adidas National Rankings.

Wingert scored five goals and added five assists during the 2003 season and earned several honors. For the second consecutive season he was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year and NSCAA/adidas All-America first-team honors. He is a member of the United States Men's U-23 National Team.

Wingert not only has excelled on the field, but in the classroom as well. He won the NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete of the Year, becoming the first player to win both National Player of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year in the same season. Wingert also becomes the first player from St. John's to win National Player of the Year honors.

The other two men's finalists were University of Maryland senior midfielder Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) and Coastal Carolina senior forward Joseph Ngwenya (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe), the 2002 NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete of the Year.

An exhibition dedicated to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy featuring all former recipients of both the M.A.C. and Hermann trophies, the current winners, a replica of the Irish crystal trophy and the original Hermann Trophy is on display at the National Soccer Museum in Oneonta, N.Y. Kozicki named to the freshmen all american team

St. John's University freshman men's soccer player Ashley Kozicki (Pleasant Valley, Pa.) was named to Soccer America's Freshman All-American team, it was announced recently by the magazine.

Kozicki was one of 11 players selected to the team, and one of only two student-athletes from the BIG EAST Conference.

He was joined on the team by Chad Barrett of UCLA; Virginia goalkeeper Ryan Burke; Notre Dame defender Greg Dalby; Saint Louis forward Vedad Ibisevic; Saint Louis forward Will John; SMU midfielder Ramon Nunez; UCLA defender Brandon Owens; Indiana forward Jacob Peterson; Cal State-Northridge forward Willie Sims and Indiana defender Jed Zayner.

During his freshman season, the 5-10, 151-pound forward helped lead St. John's to a 17-6-3 overall record and the NCAA National Championship game, where the Red Storm lost to Indiana, 2-1. The Red Storm posted an 8-2-0 record and won the program's 11th BIG EAST Championship (six tournament, five regular season) in the last 12 years.

Kozicki finished fifth on the team in scoring with five goals and four assists for 14 points. His five goals ranked tied for third on the team, while his four assists were also tied for third on the team.

His last two goals of the season were game-winners. On November 1 at West Virginia, he scored the game-winning goal against the Mountaineers, giving the Red Storm a 2-1 win and clinching the BIG EAST regular season title for the team. One week later, Kozicki's goal in overtime lifted St. John's to a 2-1 win over Villanova in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals.

The magazine said of Kozicki, "Instrumental in the Red Storm's playoff run to the national final, logging a goal, two assists and drawing two penalty kicks."

That's #10 recruiting class, not pre-season ranking. I'm sure they will be in the top 4 pre-season as will SLU.
