So assuming the best case scenario (I guess depending on whom you ask), and the leauge gets four more teams in 2005: Chivas/San Diego, Oklahoma City, Cleveland and Rochester...and assuming all the stadiums that are slated to be ready by 2005 are actually ready by 2005 - how many SSS will the league have? Second part: under the same trajectory, and if all the SSS "in the works" get finished, how many will be up and running by 2006? thanks.
if those 4 expand in 2005 (big if, only bergin is saying 4 in 05 right now, been right before though, also been way off) SSS's in 2005 - Columbus Los Angeles Dallas Rochester Oklahoma City Cleveland 6 of 14 teams... SSS's in 2006-07 (If they get built and get moving soon with plans) Columbus Los Angeles Dallas Rochester Oklahoma City Cleveland MetroStars Chicago Colorado DC that'd be 10 of 14 teams... KC and NE will be in NFL stadiums for a while... don't even know where chivas is playing yet, but they have mentioned SSS a few times so who knows that time frame, then with San Jose they are rumored to be taking over spartan stadium, so if they re-model/renovate that then i guess that would give SJ a SSS also...
All of these are by 2006 based upon what you read here. All are BEST case scnearios: For sure: Columbus L.A. Dallas Rochester OKC Likely: Chicago Cleveland New York/New Jersey (probably still 60-90 days away in 2006 but in process) Perhaps: Denver San Diego DC No: KC San Jose (assumes you do not count Spartan as SSS)
Might be good to point out that KC and NE both have very favorable leases with the cities that basically, if not fully, gives them ownership of the NFL stadium and they both have the right to set dates. I kind of think of them as huge SSSs in a way. If you want to include A-League, Atlanta will have one by 2005 based on Blackbaud. Phase 1 is already under construction.
I would add Colorado to the likely list, as an SSS has been officially announced for here. It'll be up in time for the 2006 season. All we're waiting for are the specifics (size, location, designs, etc.)
Oh, we completely forgot, the official announcement for Colorado has been made. It said that the new owner is "planning" on building a new stadium. We just have to wait "some" time before size, location, designs, and etc. are revealed. But we are 99.999999999999% "sure" that it will be done in time for 2006 season.
Here is a discussion about that very subject on another board http://www.usldiscussions.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=33;t=001118;p=&r=nfx updates from the 'Backs FO http://www.atlantasilverbacks.com/cgi-bin/coranto/viewnews.cgi?id=EpyAFpEFAAHpOWvHoI and a couple more progression photos here http://www.atlantasilverbacks.com/nailer/nailer.php?did=/clubsite mikey
No need to be an ass. We have a new I/O committed to soccer, committed to the city of Denver (he already has a site READY for the stadium to be built on), and committed to an SSS to be ready by 2006. That's more than I can say for the metros.... As a matter of fact, I'm willing to wager that our SSS will be up and running BEFORE yours is.
hopefully both are up and running at the same time... why be competitive about who gets stadiums first, all teams need them, MLS needs them, WE NEED THEM...
Common sense would tell me that you might be right. At this point I'll believe the Metro Park rumors when I see the shovels hit the ground. Same way I'll believe that Colorado will get their SSS when their groundbreaking takes place. Talk is cheap, money talks. And when your I/O officially commits millions of dollars to a new stadium, then I will admit that I am wrong.
