Selke playing well again. Too bad Hertha didn't have him to begin the season, he's been their most clinical player by far this season.

Lol, I technically still have his old jersey buried somewhere....

But I might leave that thread for someone else to set up. At the moment something doesn't quite feel right if I do it.

    I'm impressed
-Werner playing his 1st ever CL season doing very well, best from the Bundesliga.
-Selke currently tearing EL also this is the 1st ever Europe for him. Like Werner he's the best Bundesliga player in EL. Selke is now fast approaching the top of the EL scoring chart, while playing less games and minutes than the rest of the scoring table.

and for us Germany fans that's 2 young strikers.:D

Uth off the bench equalizes the game, to make it 1-1.
    https://imgtc.com/w/N7lFKp8

not sure why he started the game on the bench though.

concerning Selke, he really has been a difference maker for Hertha in EL. Selke has scored 4 goals out of the 5 that Hertha as a whole team have scored. That's 80% and he only played 3 games from the 5. Before Selke came back from injury Hertha had scored 0 EL goals....

Low always said that he wants difference makers in Europe. In his eyes
    making a difference in CL/EL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>League.

It's a big reason why Stindl and Younes even made the CC squad. And from Europe the current performs are Werner and Selke. Even if these goals don't help him make the WC squad it should at least boost his chances for a post WC call up. Now let's hope he scores in his last EL game and that he starts to actually produce domestically. Which would make ignoring him very hard.

Selke is currently at 5 goals on the season in all competition. If he's able to get up at least 10 BL goals and around 15+ in all competitions, I think he could make a pretty strong argument for next summer.

Especially if Wagner struggles more and tapers off as a bench player when he joins Bayern. And if Gomez is unable to get into proper fitness and form. But most likely Selke will become a major option when it comes to 2020.

Now let's look at the EL stats. We know that Selke is the top German and even Bundesliga EL performer but let's compare him to the rest of the tournament.

1-Rigoni, 6 goals in 5 games (team Qualified)
2-Andre Silva, 6 goals in 5 games (team Qualified)
3-Kokorin, 5 goals in 4 games (team Qualified)
4-Selke, 4 goals in 3 games (Failed to Qualify)
5-Fransergio, 4 goals in 5 games (team Qualified)
6-Willian José, 4 goals in 5 games (team Qualified)
7-Balotelli, 4 goals in 5 games (team Qualified)
8-Plea, 4 goals in 5 games (team Qualified)
9-Aduriz, 4 goals in 5 games (team still in contention) also half his goals have been PK
10-Twumasi, 4 goals in 5 games (team still in contention

from the list Selke is the only one playing on a team that failed to qualify.

now listing by goal per minute

1-Selke, played 238 minutes, averaging a goal every 59 minutes
2-Fransergio, played 236 minutes also averaging a goal every 59 minutes
3-Rigoni, played 369 minutes, averaging a goal very 62 minutes
4-Kokorin, played 330 minutes averaging a goal every 66 minutes
5-Andre Silva, played 406 minutes averaging a goal every 68 minutes
6-Willian José, played 294 minutes averaging a goal every 74 minutes
7-Balotelli, played 347 minutes, averaging a goal every 87 minutes
8-Plea, played 366 minutes averaging a goal every 92 minutes
9-Arduriz, played 450 minutes averaging a goal every 113 minutes
10-Twumasi, also played 450 minutes averaging a goal every 113 minutes

reason I put Selke above Fransergio is because he played less games than him. Selke has after 5 Matchdays of the EL, the best goals per minutes average in the whole EL.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I had the same idea about Selke he needs to hit double digits in the league. Doing that would give him like you said 15+ goals in all competition and ignoring that is impossible for a NT coach. Also one should take into account his age. From all the German strikers that are playing in the Bundesliga. Werner is the youngest and the 2nd youngest is Selke.

so for Selke 1 down, minimum 9 to go!!!!

I think it's pretty doable for Selke. He's gradually rounding back into form, and adjusting to playing with his new teammates.

For comparisons sake, in Selke's 2014/15 season with Werder he scored 9 BL goals total (with 4 assists) as a 20 year old. 8 of those league goals came from Match day 13 (Nov 29, 2014) and onwards. So most of his goals back then were scored towards the middle and later half of the season.

    Europe Update #2
-Werner, only German striker in the CL, in his 1st CL season, 3 goals in 5 games. Scored vs Porto and a double vs Monaco. Averages a goal every 80 minutes. 1 more CL game at the min but is guaranteed more Europe whether CL or EL.
-Selke, scored 4 goals in 3 games in EL vs Zorya (3 goals in the back to back games) and 1 vs Athletic Bilbao. Averages a goal every 59 minutes. Out of Europe, has 1 more game.
--Uth, scored 2 in CL Qualifiers vs Liverpool and 1 in EL vs Braga. Out of Europe, 1 more game.
-Wagner, scored 1 in CL Qualifiers vs Liverpool and 1 in EL vs Braga. Out of Europe, 1 more game.
-Zoller, scored 1 goal in EL vs BATE, since he's injured unless Koln make the R32, he'll also be out of Europe
-Petersen, scored 1 in EL Qualifier vs NK Domzale (currently out of Europe)

Werner is the only one unless Koln make it left in Europe after the GS.
By the way today's goal marks Uth's 9th goal in all competition. 1 more and he'll already hit double digits.

also if one compares Uth to Wagner in Europe.
    Double CL Qualifier vs Liverpool.
Uth, 2 goals in 2 games, scored 1 in each game played. 86 minutes played and Average a goal per 43 minutes.
Wagner, 1 goal in 2 games. 180 minutes played and average of a goal every 180 minutes.

    EL
Uth, 1 goal in 3 games. 202 minutes played. 2 starts and 1 sub
Wagner, 1 goal in 3 games. 270 minutes played. 3 starts

    just a reminder, that
-3 out of 4 Selke's EL goals have been scored by headers
-1 out of 4 Selke's EL goals was him beating a keeper in a one on one by going round the keeper and shooting in the empty net.

I dunno can't get any more Gomez than that.:D

Niclas Fullkrug gets involved in a double foul in the Stuttgart box which lead to a PK. Which Fullkrug took expertly.
    https://imgtc.com/uploads/dqqZfPSZAK7.mp4

the 3rd goal of the season for the 24 year old.
    but 5th in all competition.

between his 3 goals and 1 assist this season, Fullkrug has contributed to 5 pts for Hannover.
-1 win, which was a 2-1 win with him scoring both goals
-and 2 draws, both games ended up as 1-1, with an assist and goal

FC Nürnberg look like a good club for forming and developing strikers at the pro level. Füllkrug's major breakthrough was during his time with them. Teuchert is with them right now. While Jabez Makanda looks like one for the future.

Non-German strikers like Burgstaller, Ishak, and Drmic (pre-injuries) have also benefited from playing there.

I wouldn't mind seeing youngsters like Serra or even Wintzheimer moving there to get their chance.

not a bad move, people will never learn. Big clubs like Bayern and Dortmund are more likely to buy a striker than promote a youth one. That's the one position where youth aren't really trusted. As coaches care about result and to get results you need goalscorers.

Serra needs to follow Ducksch and leave Dortmund, he'll be 20 in March and still playing in the reserves. By the time Ducksch even left Dortmund he was already 22 years old. With Bayern using Wriedt as a striker option and then buying a striker in Jan, not sure how Wintzheimer even expects to break in. He either leaves or needs a loan soon, Will be 19 in 2 months.

Volland scores to give Leverkusen the 1-0 vs Eintracht Frankfurt.

His 8th BL goal of the season, and current leading German scorer.

Looks like after his tough first season with Leverkusen, Volland has finally settled in and finding his form. 8th league goal of this season through 13 matches, with majority of the season still to be played. His previous career BL scoring high was 11 goals in the 2013/14 season with Hoffenheim.

Putting here since Stindl deserves more credit than Ginter for the goal. Which for Ginter was just a tap in.

    tomorrow,
Wagner and Uth vs Hahn, Waldschmidt and Arp
and Selke vs no one, as Zoller is out injured

I think there is no better game for Selke even more so if he starts the game to start his ascend up the scoring charts than tomorrows. As his team plays Koln, the bottom of the league. Better to get as many goals as possible before the break, so that hitting that double digits becomes reachable. Heck would be an amazing season if he could somehow manage to score 20+ goals in all competition, between the league and EL. Already at 5 goals and there is what 22 Bundesliga and 1 EL games left this season for him.

If Selke manages double digits he should be called up for the next NT friendlies instead of Wagner. Low knows Wagner's capabilities, it would be interesting to see how Selke compares in the NT environment.

If Gomez is injured it would be good to have a better replacement target man then Wagner. Selke has a higher ceiling.

    this matchday for strikers.
-Fullkrug, Volland and Petersen are the only ones who scored.

Although plenty of them were the causes of goals, no assists just their actions helped tremendously to score.
-Werner, purposefully blocking a defender so that Keita can shoot from distance, which was the winning goal.
-Stindl's play of going pass one guy then shooting past the legs of another across the goal which made it an easy tap in for Ginter for the winner.
-Arp was the cause of the own goal because of his pressure, which ended up being the winning goal
-Selke, had a role to play in both Hertha's goals

Gomez, I won't say anything since his team went down after 11 minutes as Arnold got a straight red. Uth and Wagner were overall ineffective today.
