And David Alioto, executive vice president of San Jose-based Earthquakes LLC, confirmed that his organization is in the running for an expansion team that would begin play in 2009, contingent upon a stadium being built in the San Francisco Bay Area and an MLS team returning to San Jose. Given all of these possibilities, Antonucci expects more investors to hop on board.

    hmmm...

I almost misread that. Actually that's great news. We may get MLS and WUSA back in 2008 and 09 respectively. That's outstanding.

What, you can't wait until 2009 for women's soccer to return to the bay area?

I think this little bit of information is important. I don't think Earthquakes LLC would try to lauch two teams at the same time. I don't think they would want to dilute the effort for the Quakes to hit the ground running. This convinces me even more that they intend to restart the Quakes in 2008, and then maybe add the women's team in 2009.

Will the new women's team resurrect the name San Jose CyberRays, or will they be named something new like San Jose Tremblers or whatever?

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I think you're right; in fact I hope to God you're right. :)

Sounds like a hell of a lot more sensible plan than what WUSA had.

I'll be the first to say it -- once this new women's team in San Jose takes the pitch, there's only one choice for its head coach:

    Brandi Chastain.

    Thank you, and goodnight.

I'm pretty sure the answer is obvious, but I'll ask it anyway ;) :

Would the revenues from the CyberRays'/Tremblers' home games all go to the San Jose Earthquakes or would they be split 50-50 with SJSU? After all, if the Earthquakes and the women's team will share the same ownership, wouldn't the latter's home games be considered "Earthquakes-hosted events"?

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

Man, Goodsie, I hope they don't call them the "Tremblers." That would be worse than CyberRays. Sounds like someone coming out of a bout of delirium tremens. ;)

Would the San Jose Earthquakes then go the European-style route and name its women's team the "San Jose Earthquakes"? ;)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

If the plan is to have a womens soccer team play at Qualcomm, I'd hold off adding San Diego.

Unless of course, they want to place a team at the University of San Diego.

No offense to those of you from San Jose, but it's got to be the Bay Area CyberRays. That's how they won their title. Don't mess with the mojo.

Here's hoping I'm sharing a beer with a bunch of you a year or two down the road.

Agreed. Stick with tradition, and the brand name already has a foothold in the community, at that.

However, make it the San Jose CyberRays, and you have a deal. :)

Also hoping to catch up with drinks in a couple of years' time with the group, as well.

Since they would be starting up the year after the Quakes, could they be the San Jose AfterShocks?:D
