Not exactly sure where the cable channels expect cable customers to pull money from when they keep asking for more per subscriber.


And then they wonder why people want to stream or go a la carte so badly.

I remember when Versus was dropped from Directv in a similar dispute. If it was a la carte I would just pick the ones I watch. It's enough that it's over $100 just to get the basics and one or two premium channels and maybe above $125 just to get everything. This stuff is enough to just get cable even though I hate it (AT&T Uverse isn't offered in my area).

It's moot since MLS is going to Versus/NBC Sports and that Comcast Sports Net is not in the Fox banner--plus it's not part of a premium tier (whereas Fox Soccer Channel is--both on Comcast and DTV)... if I wanted to watch FSC I'll just go online...

My contract is up with Directv soon...So I'll be shopping around. Why can we not just pay for the channels we watch?

I sent off an email to Directv as well. I am not sure what I am paying for in the sports package if they remove fox soccer and related channels. I was pissed when they removed G4 and now this. Maybe TVG (horse racing) and comcast sports are the only remaining channels in the sports package?

Directv improvement this year is going with AMC in HD. Better to see The Walking Dead.

Dear Mr. Root,

Thanks for writing. I understand your concern about the possible removal of FOX channels. I know how important this channel is to you, so you can fully enjoy exceptional television experience from DIRECTV and it saddens me to hear that you're thinking of canceling due to this.

Be assured we are very aware of your frustration and I have also forwarded your feedback to DIRECTV management. While DIRECTV Management can not follow up with each customer individually, rest assured every suggestion and inquiry from our most important customers is reviewed to determine what changes should be considered.

I would also like to share with you that we have been in discussions to renew our agreement with News Corporation (News Corp) and Fox for its Fox Sports channels, FX and some other national channels. The agreement, which expired at midnight on Oct. 30, does not involve either your local Fox station or Fox News, so those services are not affected.

We have a fundamental disagreement with News Corp over its demand that our customers pay 40 % more for the same Fox channels they already receive. That's simply unfair. Since they will not budge, we are forced to take extreme measures. We have told News Corp that unless they come back with a reasonable price that will protect our customers from excessive increases, we will suspend several of their channels on November 1.

When it comes to providing the best experience at the most reasonable value, everyone is accountable, and so we want to prevent News Corp/Fox from treating you any differently. We recognize that this situation will cause short-term inconvenience, and we respectfully ask for your patience. We believe these actions will help keep your monthly bills under more control over the long term.

We also know you have a choice when it comes to programming providers. Unfortunately, switching providers doesn't make anyone immune to programming disputes. Over the past decade, News Corp and Fox have been involved in disputes with DISH Network, Cablevision, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Comcast, Mediacom and others. In some cases, they've fought with the same cable or satellite provider (like DISH and Time Warner Cable) every few years.

This is our first major encounter with these incredibly aggressive tactics. We believe that most of our customers realize these situations usually get resolved quite soon. And you have alternative ways of keeping up with your favorite series or teams as DIRECTV has a variety of other channels that carry your games. But our goal is to restore all of the affected channels as soon as possible and ensure that you continue to enjoy the best possible experience at a reasonable value.

I got fairly the same email response as you had received. They were suggesting to watch espn or espn2 instead. I called them today and requested to drop my 12.99 sports package giving the Fox reason. I spoke to an agent and she said that they could take $10 off for the next 6 months, so I accepted that. At least I still will have TVG, Comcast, VS, etc. at $2.99 a month. It pays to complain or you get status quo.

Just make sure they are not extending your contract with them. Happens only with new hardware though.

Comcast has MultiLatino Max for $49.99/month or $59.99/month. I forget. It is not a promo just regular price. You get GolTV, Fox Deportes, ESPN Deportes, Versus, ESPN, ESPN2 and Comcast local sports channels. You lose some of the English programming (HGTV, Fox News and some others....but keep TNT, TBS, etc) but you get all your soccer channels without having to get a Sports Entertainment Package. I realize you guys have DirectTV but just thought I would throw that out there. I have been very satisfied with it. Spanish commentators but if you know how to operate your SAP it isn't an issue. All the regular channels are still in English. Only the 600s are in Spanish.

If NewsCorp is really asking for a 40% increase in subscriber fees, I'm amazed at all of you rushing to the defense of NewsCorp and demanding DirecTV cave in to their demands.

Ridiculous.

I am not rushing to the defense of anyone. I just want to watch my footy, and if DirectTV can't supply it, I will go to who can. I have been very happy with my DirectTV service and sincerely hope they can get this sorted out.

Fox did the same thing with Dish. We lost the channels (FSC, FX, etc.) for a couple of weeks before it got resolved if I remember correctly...

Before you leave DirecTV for Comcast in order to watch FSC, you should be forewarned that Comcast does not broadcast FSC on HD.

News Corp is the most aggressive bunch of SOBs there are. I would be happy to lose FSC for a few weeks in order to counter their 40% rate increase.

I, too, bitch about my TV bill. I don't think DirecTV should roll over and play dead.

Are you sure about that? I was at relatives recently and was pretty sure I saw it on HD.

Depends where you live...in my area (san rafael/marin) Comcast does not offer FSC in HD. Plus FSC plus is not offered at all .....while other parts of the Bay Area get both....
