Kulu with a great ball into the area, but Richie heads wide.

Royal, who has had a terrible game, gets booked for a lazy foul.

Terrible play from Hjobjerg, under no pressure, he gives the ball away and then crudely hauls down their player and goes into the book.

Lloris bails out his midfielder with a solid catch on the free kick.

More poor play from Richie, he does well to cut into the middle, but plays his cross into touch.

Tremendous save by Lloris! Poro allowed to cut inside by Perisic and hisleft-footed shot is tipped wide by the Frenchman.

1-0, 90 minutes. Paulinho heads in from the corner. Fully deserved, we have been shite.

Arthur Gomes blows through Royal and slots home for game, set and match.

It’s been coming, not necessarily this game, but just overall. Spurs have been mediocre at best and somewhat fortunate to not have a loss yet this season

Hope this gets the cobwebs out

2-0, FT. A performance reminiscent of our Conference League disasters. An absolutely dire showing.

Not sure what Conte was thinking, only using one substitute. Really annoying to see that when the manager was moaning all last season about having five kids on the bench.

No Bissouma, no Skipp, no Doherty, no Sessegnon, I mean what is the point of assembling this squad if you are going to keep wheeling out the same players every game?

For a team that depends on wing-backs, both of ours were lousy tonight. Both Perisic and Royal were at fault in the buildup and the scoring of their first goal and contributed nothing in attack. Not sure why Royal is first choice when we have better options at that position in Doherty and Spence.

Totally agree about the lack of substitutions. Skipp, Bissouma, Sess all would have been welcome. Well played to Sporting, they were the batter team all day.

Reminded me very much of the end of the Poch era, to be honest. We've been in a passive malaise all season, failing to impose our will on anyone - outside of the second half against Southampton - so it's not a surprise that we finally lost.

Can't understand why Deki was on the bench. Not that Son was our worst player tonight (that honour belongs to Kane) but Son and Perisic get in each other's way, whereas Deki and Royal do have chemistry. Either pair Son with Sess down the left or Richarlison with Perisic and leave Deki with Royal together on the right.

The midfield was crap as usual. I'm not even asking for Conte to put Bissouma and Skipp in there right away - although it wouldn't be the worst idea. But at least one of them should be in there instead of this slow-as-molasses Højbjerg-Bentancur pairing.

Our last away win in Europe was 4-1 at Wolfsberger FC.

Since then we have only one draw in 6:

    Zagreb 0-3
    Pacos 0-1
    Rennes 2-2
    Vitesse 0-1
    Mura 1-2
    Porto 0-2

End of first half we were lucky not to be down 2-0. Funny that we ended up losing 2-0 anyway. 2nd half we were the better side, knocking on the door with more of the ball and chances but no finishing. I would’ve been happy just to take a point. Nope, a very Spursy switch off in the last 4 min and it all goes to shite.

Could have lucked our way to a 0-0, a result (if not a performance) that most would have been happy with. As it is, I hope the loss forces a reckoning with this playing style. Where has the free flowing play of late last season gone? We need to go out and impress against Leicester.
