We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of Heurelho Gomes to the Club, subject to the player agreeing personal terms, passing a medical examination and obtaining his work permit.

Goalkeeper Gomes, 27, a Brazilian international, was an ever-present member of PSV's title-winning squad last season, when he conceded only 24 goals in 34 league games.

He made his name at Cruzeiro in Brazil, debuting in 2002 before securing his move to Europe and PSV in 2004.

Since then, he has won four Dutch titles in succession with PSV, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2004-05.

Gomes will be no stranger to Spurs fans - he was outstanding in our UEFA Cup Round of 16 matches against PSV last season.

Robbo to Villa, then. Happy with the signing, I just hope it isn't the last one. We still need a DM.

    Gomes fee agreed

It's on the official site, fee agreed, still the business of medical and personal terms I believe, but The Octopus is coming. There's a lot of discussion about how he handles crosses, and it has merit. But, for me, I think this is a huge plus. With Woodgate and King we should have 1 top notch CB at all times. Dawson can pair either to decent effect and I still expect 1 more CB in. Hutton is solid defensively and if Bale is healthy he will be decent defensively as well. But notice how all of our CB's and even our FB's are particularly strong in the air? I think that complements a keeper with very good shot stopping ability, so I think Gomes should do fine.

Furthermore, while my favorite all-time keeper Kasey Keller was ridiculed for his distribution, and Robinson hailed for his distribution, Robinson's distribution was poor. Ramos has built a team of players who are all good on the ball and responsible passers. Building out of the back is a very good option for us, and Gomes' throws should work very nicely for us. Remember, we're not trying to become the new Bolton, we just need to not-stink at the back and we'll be in with a shout.

    Welcome Octopus.

Am glad, he knows Salcido which obviously is Gio's fellow contrymate, so that'll be good, plus he is an awesome keeper

Well guys, as a PSV supporter i can tell you, you just bought one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I cant even put into words how much he has ment for our team over the past 4 years, he makes miracles happen!

Only sad thing is he left our club in a bad way, heavy arguing with our Director and he kind of forced his way out like that. Thats really sad because he was a real fan-favourite and always spoke as someone who really had a lot of love for PSV.

I will be following him and his performances at the Spurs very closely!
    Congrats!

Welcome to the board, Spurs2Rise. Enjoy.

Quick thing though, don't troll rival team's forums. If you want to go and discuss in a civil manner, by all means go for it. If not, then just talk about them here or in the England Rivalries forum. Thanks.

And the best thing about it is that YP Lee finally buggered off back to PSV.

I'm going to sound like Peter Gammons, but he seems like a great character guy. Could be real inspirational on the field.

He does have the sort of big personality we've been lacking in the team.

Don't really care about his personality. However, I do hope that he gets working with a goalkeeping coach who will teach him how to catch a cross instead of using those dodgey punches he seems to have an affection for...

I am happy that we finally have a keeper who we can count on if a game ever goes to penalties, though.

And most of the supposed ITK's are Steve Philips...

But hopefully this pans out well. I always liked Robbo because he absolutely loved playing for Spurs. I hope he gets cheered when he comes back.

But, we must move on. Start thinking of chants...

Hopefully he'll do well for us if of course he agrees terms, completes medical and gets a work permit.

Why not care for his personality? It can have a big impact (for better or worse) on the team if he turns out to be a big prick, a nice guy etc.

Agree with the second bit though. Can't wait to see him in action.

Gammons would never say anything that nice about soccer.

That guy for Spain seems to be doing fairly well. Reminds me a bit of Ince.

Really? I haven't payed attention to that. He sure is dominating the middle for Spain, though. Was awesome v. Italy! He looked so worn out during the second period of stoppage time I thought he was gonna do a Baggio.
