Holland V. Eire. Keano scores a goal of immense beauty, and one the 'Potato-Junkies' will speak about for years to come. Keano (for it is he), recieves the ball in the Irish half, and pelts hell for leather a la Henry for the Gooners V Spurs towards the Dutch goal. The stupid, stupid defenders back off, and then back off some more, and then a bit more for good measure, whilst fellow Irish players drag them out of position by making dummy runs forward. Keano cuts inside and slams the ball past Van Der Sar (who gets a hand to it) from outside the area. Cue idiot English commentators talking crap about 'the Irish eyes are smiling!' Shut up, you cliche ridden fools! The Irish in the crowd go wild, and Irish eyes are smiling! Eire win 1-0 in Holland Robinson, King and Defoe play for England against Iceland, and molest the blond Ssons 6-1. Robinson lets in a goal. Not his fault because the 'Ginger Jackal', aka Scholes, is in front of him. King has a header cleared off the line and plays a fairly solid game. Defoe plays for the last 6 minutes, and doesn't make any impact at all. Stupid, stupid Sven, should've brought him on sooner. Unfortunately for Defoe, Vassel gets 2 goals, and his hamstrings remain intact. The question is ,why doesn't he ever play half as good for Villa? It's a question I'm asking and I hope he'll never answer, because I'm happy he's mediocre at club level. Easier for Spurs next season you see. I'm sure we had others playing for other countries, so feel free to fill in the blanks (without mentioning the Dutch and French 'possibles!') And Ian Walker replaced Robinson. He looked so chuffed that I really wanted him to do well, even though I have many negative feelings towards him.
I don't know if Spurs Reserves really count, but Hielder Postiga scored for Pourtgal in a 4-1 win. He scored the 4th goal, which happened in the 90th minuite.
Andy Reid was heavily involved in the buildup for the Irish goal. I doubt the club are going to sign him, but to me he looked an interesting player but lacking a bit of pace and sharpness. He did skip past Reiziger though. A reasonable signing for 3 million, but anything more is a ripoff. Mabizela captained South Africa again yesterday, played as the defensive midfielder and scored two cracking goals. One a freekick and one a 30 yarder like the one he got against Leicester apparently. I'm confident he's going to get his chance next year, either as a centre back or one of the two defensive midfielders, he's a star in the making IMO. Physically strong, fast, aggressive, a leader and has a terrific right foot.
