There won't be much chance to miss our boys this summer, with so many of them in action at tournaments. Let's use this thread to keep track of them. At the Euros in France there are the 5 England boys, 3 Belgies, Hugo, Davies, Wimmer... (had to check Austria made it)... no Eriksen though . Then at Copa America there will be Lamela and Yedlin.
I will be watching both Yedlin and Lamela in each's respective group stage game in Chicago. ... and if either goes to the Chicago-staged semi. **crosses fingers**
Ecuador was much the better side in the first half, with a lot of their pressure coming up their left (our right) through Jefferson Montero. Yedlin dealt with much of reasonably well ... but I wouldn't have called it comfortable. i'd've been more inclined to call his first half performance 'ok' than 'good'. the second half saw numerous changes in players and setups, and we were much, much better through the middle and they saw far less of the ball. Yedlin was decent in attack and more solid in defense, as Montero came off for Arroyo around the hour. it was a fair enough performance, but if one of the two or three occasions where Montero got in behind and created some chaos in the box had actually led to a goal or two (and they easily could've), there'd likely be some fingerpointing going on today.
The only Spur to play for England vs Australia yesterday was Dier as a substitute. And he scored! For Australia...
Tottenham players going to Euro 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36417368 Austria Kevin Wimmer Belgium Toby Alderweireld Jan Vertonghen Mousa Dembele England Kyle Walker Danny Rose Dele Alli Eric Dier Harry Kane France Hugo Lloris Wales Ben Davies
All 5 England players started yesterday. Dier, Alli and Kane have all made themselves essential; Rose seems to be ahead of Bertrand in the pecking order; Walker v Clyne for the RB position is a very competitive scrap, but with Walker being given the No.2 squad shirt and putting in a MOTM performance there is a very real possibility that half of the first choice England team comes from Tottenham Hotspur FC going into this tournament. I really want to see England vs Belgium this summer, it'll be like a training session at the Lodge
I agree with that except for Alli being essential: just because Hodgson has other midfield choices that he seems to like (Milner??? Rooney as a number 10???)[emoji15]
I listened to the Portugal game on the radio - the announcers were killing Hodgson for the formation. It sounded like Kane and Vardy were in different zip codes? Anyone see the game?
Yeah, I did. Rooney was supposed to be playing 10 behind a proper forward pair (good mix of link play and poaching from Kane, pace in behind from Vardy); instead we were treated to the sight of an undisciplined Rooney constantly placing himself as an orthodox centre forward, leaving Kane and Vardy no choice but to play as almost traditional wingers. To cap it all, whenever Rooney did drop deep he kept getting in the spaces that Alli thrives on running into, so much so that he ended up taking himself wide left just to get away from the oaf. It was a mesmerising defensive performance from Rooney, he somehow managed to man mark England's 3 best players all by himself. Walker was excellent.
Didn't see Belgium squeak past Norway 3-2, but our center back pairing played, and Dembele was a late sub. Son helped his S. Korea beat the Czechs, but he didn't score. Will be watching Argies-Chile tonight
Went to be bed before Lamela made an appearance On the other hand, Eriksen got a hat trick for Denmark in some tourney in Japan.
I was getting really mad at the Messi cam while he was on the bench. So disrespectful to those actually playing. Then he came on and did that.
yup. I thought it was a bit embarrassing how the crowd was chanting for Messi, all the while there's a decent Copa match going on right in front of them. and the cameras putting him on the big screen as he's sat on the bench weren't helping. ... then he came on and you realize what everyone was yelling about.
