I know there was talk of a game with the Fire and NIU in honor of the victims of the shooting in February, any more news on that?

I don't really know for sure, but it doesn't look like it. The tradgedy at NIU forced some changes on the schedule. The matches for March 29th were originally scheduled for Feb 16th. Then the Depaul and Domincan matches were filled in, which is where the Fire may have fit. It's tough trying to schedule dates when only so many weekends will work. In addition they are going to be breaking ground on the new soccer stadium at NIU as soon as the weather will allow, so thats another hurdle to get over. These spring games will all be played in the football stadium on the turf. It's too bad the new stadium will also be turf, but I guess you can't complain with a new stadium being built.

Looking at long term costs, turf is becoming the choice of many new stadiums, if it's the good stuff, like at Creighton and Northwestern, no problem.
If it's the lower level turf, like at Cleveland State, that's a problem.
Too bad about the Fire game, it would have been a nice tribute.

    Oakland 1-1 Indiana
    Oakland 0- 1 MSU
    MSU 0-0 U of M
    Indiana 1-0 U of M

OU IU game was the most intense, got a bit chippy which made for good watching.
IU saved most of their starters for the U of M game and it paid off with a victory, Noschang getting the winner early in the 1st half.

The Oakland game was a tough physical game. There was a point in the game when a OU player attacked Wilmarth. I will give Wilmarth some credit he did not react to the OU player other than to defend himself. The game ended 1-1 with Purdie scoring the goal assisted by weaver. The Oakland goal was a no call on the referee. IU goalie clearly had the ball in his hands when a Oakland player ran into him and the ball dropped right to the feet of an Oakland player who put it in the goal.

The first half of the Michigan was probably the best half of soccer the boys have played in a while. We attacked the goal from the start with several scoring opportunities. About half way through the first half Weaver put a ball across to a Noschang who one timed it into the corner. IU had it's chances in the second half but the Michigan goalie stopped Noschang on a nice slotted pass.

So far IU is 2-0-2 this spring.

Games coming are against Norte Dame, West Virgina and the Mexican National Team.

A very green Furman squad with only about 13 healthy players destroyed South Carolina last night. Furman led 2-0 at the half and added a third goal before South Carolina got one with about 10 minutes to play.

Lobos tie Wake Forest 1-1 on the road. Apparently it was a very even game on the whole. Wake better in the first half, UNM better of the play in the second half. Goal by Justin Davis with assist by Reed.
