Traveling to Amsterdam for spring break from march 20th to march 30th, too excited for words (first time to Europe!); I see the Netherlands are playing Czech Republic the day before we leave. Should be a great atmosphere, I assume tickets are out of the question though right? Looking forward to an Ajax stadium tour nonetheless (even though they wont be there), and all of the other delights of amsterdam. Any natives got some cant-miss places in mind for when wandering the city?
First of all... if you're looking for great atmosphere don't go to the Holland game. Amsterdam. Irish Pub 'Tara' on Rokin (between Rembrandtplein and Central Station) is fun. Especially when they broadcast English football (always). Eat, drink, talk... it's fun and some Ajax boys can be found there as well usually. Then there's Rembrandtplein and Thorbeckeplein (two squares in one) for the nightlife (many bars, Escape discoteque or whatever you call it in English). Some nice places to go. The Powerzone. Bit of a snobby place but fun nevertheless. Mostly house music as far as I know. Open almost 24 hours a day. Heineken Music Hall (next to Arena stadium). There are no better acoustics anywhere. Visit a concert or a Q-Dance event (Qlimax for instance). Hardhouse and Oldskool mostly. Red Light district (of course) Ajax Supportershome on a friday night (not too crowded but you can meet me Coffeeshop M&M in Spuistraat. Coffeeshop Greenhouse on Waterlooplein (some of the best weed in A'dam). Teasers bar (from CS walk into the big street straight in front of you. You'll find it on your right-hand side). There's more of course. If you like (hard)house music I could look for parties if you like. And if there's anything special you like (brown cafés, animal sex, whatever) let me know and I'll tell you where to go
Animal sex, eh ?? That tops the list of all the "quality filth" that this fine city has to offer ! For "fancy cigarettes", I like Bluebird, on Oude Hoogstraat, i think. Maybe you can recommed a cool party to attend? - I'm planning a trip there, between 15/3 till 19/3. So, I'll be at the Excelsior match. What can i say - just love those Rotterdammers !
