What "that" are you referring to? Anyway, ugly finish with a pretty soft goal we allowed (who passed that ball back anyway?) and a terribly stupid red card in added time. 2-2 is fine with me I guess, and doesn't look like anyone got hurt. Everyone better be ready to go Saturday.
The free kick where Ellis tapped in the 2-1 goal. Chivas player hopped on the target's back and forced him to the ground.
Jesus. How bad was it? I was listening to Cal 'cause I don't have the espn 3/deportivo. What was the context? Luke "can jump out of the stadium" Sassano says Rocky was protecting one of our players (can't remember who). Details, please.
All in all I think the result was fair. The Negatives: 1. Red card at the end of the game 2. Mostly Chivas crowd. Where is the KC representation? The positives: 1. We seemed to dominate throughout good periods of the game 2. Our depth is looking pretty good for the final stretch. 3. Ellis drew the foul for the free kick and scored the second goal. That will certainly draw Peter's attention. Wondering if we will see more of Ellis. 3. No injured players, and no players looked extremely tired. The team seemed to be working on all cylinders during parts of the game. ENOUGH ALREADY LETS BEAT NEW YORK!
Really don't think it was THAT bad. It wasn't great, but it wasn't a horror tackle and the player rolled around and was miraculously healed after the card. Deserved red, but not an awful tackle.
Eeesh. Well - that's Rocky! I hope that wasn't some weird ass 'farewell' or anything like that. I'm kind of a Rocastle fanboy as some of you know. It would make me a little sad that the one game I missed this year was his last with the Sporting Kansas City Wizards. From the call, it seemed we were bossing large portions of the game which is obviously 'good'. I'm jacked for Saturday and putting NJRB in our rear view mirror.
No, there's no consequences. Things right before the red were rough there were some hard and high challenges in the play leading up to the red card, I think both Harrington and Olum were on the ends of some rash challenges before Rocky's red.
Probably burnt out a bit, ticket wasn't included in season ticket package, take your pick there are a few reasons why people chose not to show up.
And the Chivas fans have much more motivation to go. They get to see their beloved team live for probably the first time in a while (if ever) and we get to see SKC again in a meaningless game... Season ticket holders don't have tickets and those that don't have season tickets would be much more likely to want to go to the NY game.
Nailed it. That parking lot was full of fans excited to see "their team". Same pregame atmosphere as the Man U friendly last summer to some extent, except majority of the crowd had been following Chivas for much longer and I didn't have to see any AIG ads on shirts.
All of the above plus the memory of the snoozefest that was the Necastle friendly. (although I will say that the first half looked like both teams were into the match - at least it looked that way on my tablet.) That and I decided to save my money for the playoffs.
Just burned out for me -- I am solely focused on the NYRB game, that is all I have been thinking about the last day or two. I also don't really get up for games that don't mean much. When they mean nothing I kind of switch off unless the visiting team means something to me. Was funny on the chat last night because I said "I won't get excited about this game unless Saad or Ellis score" ... I was pretty excited when Ellis knocked his in. Nice cool finish from Saad -- he has good composure in front of goal and anybody who has talked Ellis with me knows I see mad potential in him. He'll wind up as a back but he'll score goals - he just does so naturally. Last nights was a bit fortuitous but anybody who saw his 3 feet off the ground diving header in training just after he was signed knows exactly what I am talking about. Gifted finisher, and a real Watson/Korede scrapper to boot.
One fun moment in pregame: We were all just hanging out before the match in the Cauldron not paying that much attention to warmups, and the Chivas GK Micheli gets our attention and says HEY and then points to his eyes to tell us to watch out because they were going to start shooting and he wanted us to not get hit. Very classy move, so we sang a "Gracias Micheli" chant to which he turned around and clapped for us.
I didnt go. Today is a travel day, but thats no excuse. From reading the posts and the reviews, Id be telling a lie if I said I was glad with my decision.
first of all, "it is what it is" is a massive pet peeve of mine. it is, in my opinion, the worst currently used phrase in the english language. second of all, while i like that he wants to play gritty and tough, it's disappointing to see him basically condone the type of tackle that rocastle did.
I don't like to see that at all either. I don't care what happened before that, Rocastles tackle was completely uncalled for and I can't believe a coach would not only allow it, but practically endorse it. Playing physically =/= irresponsible and blatant fouls. It was a friendly for crying out loud! My pet peeve saying/phrase is "same difference."
Kinda disagree -- if the game wasn't chippy and getting nasty I would call Rocastle every name under the sun but sometimes you just need to lay somebody out when they step up a bit to far. Its a respect thing, a team thing ... and in the last few seconds of a friendly with no consequences why the hell not? There is a back story I can't relay here in its entirety but apparently one of our players backing down from a confrontation in a scrimmage or training lead to him spending a large amount of time on the bench. It has been the way I have always known the game ... hell it used to be that teams would trade tackles like that in the first few minutes just to make sure they knew where they stood. Big defender would drop a skill player, and the defender would get a kicking a few minutes later, and it'd carry on until the referee called on it to be cut out .... no different from guys getting plunked in baseball ... Pet peeve saying: "<insert player name> is a baller (or stud)" .... one sounds like a porn term and has no relevance in soccer and I am not sure what the sexual prowess of anybody has to do with the fact that they score goals once in a while.
i would agree with you if we were talking about something like a strong shoulder challenge or a collision like that to "lay somebody out." a tackle from behind though... my issue with it is the style of the tackle, not the intent or the message it's meant to convey.
Not surprised to hear this. IMO, Sporting is one of the roughest teams in the league. I didn't see the Rocastle tackle, but the one by Espinoza 5 minutes into the Newcastle game was totally unnecessary and showed a lack of team class. If Joey Barton had been town, at least I would have gotten my money's worth, if you know what I mean.
