Is this a thread that needs to be started by a moderator? Only a couple days out and it isn't showing yet, or at least until this post.

Anyone can start a thread. No need for a moderator. However, a moderator might want to revise the thread title to exclude the question mark after "Portland." Since we're fairly certain that's who we play.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBktn6GBqCQ"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBktn6GBqCQ[/ame]

The people that usually start these threads are on the road traveling for the games.

Tough match last night. Obviously, we won by multiple goals, but we looked exhausted late in the game. Gonna be even more exhausted on Saturday. I hope we can gut it out, seeing as how we get a two week break after this (thanks Robb for not scheduling a friendly for next weekend). I want the win, but I think I'll be okay if we draw.

and not that people shouldn't be surprised, but needs an [R] in the title. Portland has lost 4 straight.

Is that the only watch party in the city or the only official one? I'm out of the loop and braindead but aren't they supposed to open the Members Club for away games? I just try to avoid anything P&L as much as I can.

I would bet we could get something going at Chappels Restaurant and Sport's Museum. He told me he would be more than willing to have watch parties there, and if you have never been there, you are missing out on one of if not the best sports bar/restaurant/museum in the city.

Where do Portland fans hang out online? Their BS forum is dead like Vancouver's.

Metro Sports reported that 350+ SKC fans making the trip to Portland for the match. Is that accurate?

Uh. Not as far as I know. 90 is the number I hear. 350 would be more tha Chicago last year.

It's hard for me to be optimistic about this one. It's got loss written all over it for me. Portland is looking for revenge, we started looking mortal against Vancouver, we're playing on more plastic and even more fatigued. Portland is going to smell the blood and go for it.

The only positive I see from this match is that we get a two week break before playing again at home, so maybe we can afford to throw it all out there a little more than we could in Vancouver. The fitness is still going to be a concern though.

All that being said, I'm predicting a 7-0 win for SKC. No reason needed, obviously.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us take the foot off the gas a bit in the first half and not press quite as much as we have and save it for the second half.

Also, is Nagamura good to go? If he's not, will we see Sassano or Olum in his place?

Hah. Perfect way to end your analysis.

I want to see Teal start and play 75+, maybe for Kei who obviously doesn't like turf. CJ and Teal would be an interesting experiment. Even though I am not sure how well it would work out, now is as good a chance as any to find out. I want Sassano instead of Nagamura to start assuming Cesar is still out, and Nags to be kept as a sub for Roger or Zusi. I would not mind Harrington playing for Seth, he looked totally wiped in Vancouver.

When we are up 4 or 5 goals of the 7, get one of the young strikers some minutes.

I think we can walk out with a draw. A loss and I give up on the season :D.

But your own Elo ratings suggest that SKC's expected outcome is 0.684! Numbers never lie! :)

I posted a comment on your blog asking how you assign predicted points (win=3, draw=1) based on expected outcomes (win=1.0, draw=0.5). Your answer would also enable estimation of win/draw/loss probabilities for each game.

They were on the field together on multiple occasions last year, including the 3-3 draw at Vancouver (Bravo was suspended for his red card in Chicago), the end of the 1-1 draw at San Jose (Sapong got the assist on Bunbury's goal), and all three playoff games. It just means putting CJ on one of the wings, rather than in the middle, and resting either Convey or Kamara. Sapong can certainly play out there, but it is not his best position.

    Agree.

CJ+Teal worked okay last year in San Jose. It was one of the best goals from the run of play we had all year (and nobody saw it). Maybe it was a unicorn, but it was pretty.

Also, I like the idea of Nagamura coming on for either Zusi or Roger instead of starting. I gotta ask, right now what do we lose with Sassano playing instead of Nagamura at DM?

I'd even entertain Sassano starting at DM, and having Nagamura start for Roger or Zusi (but I've been an advocate of more player rotation generally speaking). If so, you'd still have Roger/Zusi and Kei available as impact subs. Nagamura just has to remember to hydrate!

Yes, it will suck to play on plastic again. I think what may save us is I believe the pitch at Jeld-Wen is significantly smaller than Vancouver's. (Less distance to travel ...)

Portland is struggling mightily. Their head's are full of fear and loathing because of the leads they've blown.

It will be tough, no doubt - but I think we limp away with a 2 -1 win.
