So you mean we have to play again? We don't just go directly to the Open Cup final?

This game is prime for a let down after the big win yesterday. Although Columbus' lack of offensive punch could play into our hands if we were to play a little slower with tired legs.

Since Vermes made only the 1 sub last night I would not be surprised to see us make plenty of lineup changes. Saad, and Joseph to start? Convey maybe?

What's up with Cesar, Mikeapedia? Is Bobunbury right?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the same kind of lineup from the Seattle game in this one. Still hope we have some energy to get a win here....this is a winnable game, but we gotta be physically and emotionally spent after last night. Columbus matches up better with us on FK's with their big CB's, so we are going to have to get something going from the run of play.

I imagine it was straight to Columbus from Philadelphia for the team then?

I don't even know how to feel about this one. I suppose if we had to punt on a match to make it to the USOC final this would be the game, but I'd hate to lose to a conference rival.

    A point would be wonderful.

For clarification, when I said out, I meant out of the starting lineup. If you study how PV does things, it's easy to figure out his line up.

I wonder if Vermes is just reluctant to start Cesar at DM while Olum is unavailable as the backup CB. At least Julio was in the 18 last night. Besler and Cesar as the CB pairing vs. Seattle? (shudder)

The problem with Cesar is pace. PV looks to be going for younger/fresher legs. The late sub for the Philly game was going to be Thomas. Right now, he is more suited for CB tham DM.

This makes no sense to me. Cesar has been our DM destroyer in the middle of the field, hanging behind Roger and Zusi. He doesn't need a lot of pace. He's not a winger streaking up and down the sidelines.

The fact remains, we have been at our best this year with Cesar on the field. Without him, we have usually struggled. If PV is resting him because of his age to save him for the USOC final and later part of the season, I get that and applaud giving some game time to Nagamura and others to get them minutes. But if he's deciding to bench Cesar because of a lack of "pace" he's an idiot.

It's also possible Vermes is now thinking in terms of conserving players for the stretch run, particularly the ones with a few miles on them.

Eh, I hope we win. I like winning when I'm at away games. I've seen two losing efforts in a row, I'm tired of that already.

Win, I wanna sober up in a Tim Hortons in a good mood.

I'd never seen a win on the road up until last year, now I'm 3-2-1 in the last 6 road games

We are finally getting back to being pretty healthy again. Columbus looks to have a few key guys out though.

We've played double the number of competitive games than the Crew have since 6/16. We've had 6 league and 2 open cup, while they've played only 4 league games.

Cesar should be in the line up today, no Zusi though. I also get the feeling that one of our forwards will be traded or at the very least discussions took place.

    1. Collin, Besler, Olum, Markovic, and possibly Rosell... CB depth may be ok now.
    2. Probably, but I'd rather dump salary there first with Cesar and Nagamura making half a mil.
    3. And where do you play Zusi?
    4. Kronberg has shown to be a more than capable of starting in this league, Kempin showed well vs Orlando, and Turner on the juniors has spent time with US youth national team. GK doesn't seem to be a need.

1.Within the next few years Europe may be looking at Besler, Possibly collin. Im not completley sold on Olum. Markovic look decent.

    2. Fair enough

    3. I know its been talked on here before zusi could move to rogers spot, and roger would replace cesar.
Anyway its not my first choice just a possible thought.

    4. Again fair enough. Not a high need but it wouldnt hurt.

Saad gets the nod and Bumbury and CJ get some rest. Ballsy coaching. I like it.

There's no young CB in the league right now that wouldn't be looking to Europe in the next few years. So you'd be trading Bunbury (a player also probably with an eye towards Europe) for a defender who already has an eye towards Europe...

The probably I've always had with people who say to drop Zusi and Espinoza back one is that you lose more of their capabilities going forward because you're adding more defensive responsibilities to their job.
