    New songs...

    We are Sporting *
    We are Sporting #
    We are Sporting *
    We are Sporting #
    WOOOOOOUUUUULD
    you please score a goal?!

*(sung by sections M4 through M9)
#(sung by section M1 through M3 and hopefully the rest of the stadium)
    ?!(sung by all)

In honor of the Kansas City Star's editorial suggestion for what to call the team...

    They call us Wiz
    They call us Wizards
    They call us Kansas
    or something lame

    That's not our name
    That's not our name
    That's not our name
    That's not our name

    ;)

I agree completely. I think the supporter's club will be a great place to get the wrinkles ironed out of new and existing chants pre-game.

I don't think changing the existing wizards chants would be particularly beneficial.

I know we haven't really done player chants much in the past, but perhaps this name change can provide some impetus to branch out.

If Smith is back (I hope, I hope, I hope), it might be a good time to try out the adaptation of the Ryan Giggs chant that was suggested in a prior thread.

The more I think about it, the line we were having trouble with could easily just be inverted from the Man Utd chant, "loved by the blues, feared by the reds", or "feared by the reds, loved by the Wiz". Smith did blow past Rafael embarrassingly easily a couple times in the Wizards/Man Utd game, after all - why not have a little fun with it.

As a very simple Sporting chant, how about an alteration to the not commonly heard MUFC OK! Man Utd chant, along the lines of:

    S-C!
    S-C-K!
    S-C-K-C!
    OK!
    (repeat)

Terribly simple, and probably something we'd get tired of quickly, but perhaps it'd be easier to get some of the usual hand-sitters involved with it, than something complicated.

    I’m Popeye the Sporting Fan
    I’m Popeye the Sporting Fan
    I’m strong to the finish
Cause I grew up on Quidditch
    I’m Popeye the Sporting Fan.

We either own the fun songs or we hear them from other teams ....

I think we could come up with something other than Popeye though for that.

    Pluralize?

We're the Cauldron and Sporting Fans
    We're strong to the finish
Cause we grew up on Quidditch
We're the Cauldron and Sporting Fans

It does sound like we are holding fans to cool ourselves off though ;)

I was thinking plural as well -- either way you have about six months to get it right :) Simple is always good.

    We are the Sporting Fans
    We are the Sporting Fans
We are strong to the finish
Cos we grew up on Quidditch
    We are the Sporting Fans

I was also thinking some kind back and forth could work and we really could play on the divided nature of people that love sporting vs wizards.

Now at highbury *snore* they used to do the old:

This is the North Bank, the North Bank, North Bank Highbury

And then the opposing end would sing

This is the Cock End, the Clock End, Clock End Highbury

Something like this could work within the section maybe:

We are the Wizards, the Wizards, the Wizards from KC
We are Sporting, we are Sporting, we are Sporting KC

People just need to sing the bit they identify with (or both bits like I probably would) -- and we all wind up making noise, or a singular:

We are the Wizards, the Wizards, we are Sporting KC

Don't care if its the same old tune I love, not sure if that can be loved here, but .... something along those lines ... own the old, own the new --

    I've always favored pub/folk songs:

    I've been a Wild Rover,
    for many a year

    I've spent all my money
    on tickets and beer

Now I have a pitch (could insert stadium name maybe)
    to call home

We have (forceful on last 2 lines)
    a place of our own.

    (Chorus) repeat x2

    And it's No, Nay, NEVER!
    (4 claps/booms)
    No Nay Never no more,
Will I play the Wild Rover
    No Nay Never no more.

    We've been KC Wizards,
    for many a year...

    <snip>

    And it's No, Nay, NEVER!
    (4 claps/booms)
    No Nay Never no more,
    Will we be-e-e-e KC Wizards
    No Never no more.

Sorry, I had to do it.

Not that I want to be true exactly, but I think it would be funny in among all the Wiz/Wizards chants. :)

Just had a thought. Maybe all this uncertainty will finally get us to focus more on songs for our players. One love there.

    Ohh ohh ohhh ohhh
We've got the greatest midfield in the world
We've got .....put in the names etc and Davy Arnaud oh oh

There we go, no problem on that one

    Oh we've got a home
    where the Wizards' D roams
where Jimmy and Shavar set the pace
There's Mike Harrington and the star Honduran
and the Puma makes saves with his face

In this Wizards works better to me because I used the possessive. Sporting sounds better to me in Ojsgillt's. Just yelling Sporrrting loudly is different than Sporting's. Obviously this will need to change a bit if the players change.

We need a song for the forwards (and the back line if people don't like that one)

    Millwall -- Tune embedded -- (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_one_likes_us,_we_don%27t_care)

We were the Wiz, we were the Wiz, we were the Wiz from KC,
No one liked it, no one liked it, no one liked it we don't care,
We're the Wizards, We're the Wizards, We're the Wizards from KC,
No one liked it, no one liked it, no one liked it, we don't care,
We're called Sporting, we're called Sporting, we're called Sporting from KC
No one likes it, no one likes it, no one likes it we don't care.

    {Repeat}

I really dig the defiant tones, I always have, the "I could give a ******** what you think of our name" tone i dig and the tune is simple. It had to be for Millwall Fans. Also digging the idea of songs that use Wizards and Sporting ... feels unifying.

In that vein, this was suggested to me by a non-STH Cauldron member.

    Sporting Sporting Kansas City
    Sporting Sporting Kansas City
    Sporting Sporting Kansas City
    The Wiz go marching on.

I know it's a standard, but only the word Glory is changed. It sounds natural to me w Glor and Spor having matching vowel sounds. We started as the Wiz and we're still marching on - might mean more than it did before.
