I mean, I like it. But it's gotta come alongside some results or it's doubly a waste. Eager for some rumors at least.
I feel bad I missed that in the title card. Apparently SHIFT '4 in a circle' is a sponsor. I mean I guess such a roster announcement needed a sponsor? This is fun too, https://www.sportingkc.com/news/quotes-roster-decisions-media-q-a-with-sporting-director-mike-burns Quite telling when answering the question about staleness Mr. Burns gives the "stale" PV response of if the players are not hungry and fit enough they will not play. Blue Hell indeed.
Well, yeah. He's explicitly restating what Pete's practices are. Honestly, I thought that was a pretty good presser? He's certainly more transparent and eloquent than Pete is, so it's a nice change on that front. I'm very happy to see significant expansion of infrastructure. Improving the II to I pipeline and putting dedicated personnel on that is mandatory, so I'm hopeful about that move. Hiring more scouts is just inevitable in today's world. We can't compete if we're just trying to snag the occasional rando. I still have yet to be convinced this guy can provide results, but this presser actually rang pretty okay for me. And good to have at least some degree of confirmation (spin, perhaps) that Benny left amicably and to pursue higher coaching opportunities. Any other reason and I'd not be so happy.
This will sure go over well. https://www.sportingkc.com/news/spo...d-major-league-soccer-s-executive-of-the-year
Wait, what? The award must be based on something other than presiding over a MLS organization. Maybe they awarded on looks, personality, best dressed or something else. Is this a joke?
Well, he did put SKC in a position to compete for coolest office space in KC. Maybe from a business standpoint, least invested but still attracting support?
No, go back and look at your quote from the transfers thread and try to conjure up a reason why Reid would even be in the running: “But we're really poorly thought of. The red Bulls started five homegrowns in the final. their value is $41m to our $26m. Their strategy is to create value through local talent. they have a strategy, and it is working. DC united is just ahead of us, and they're also kind of a basket case. But we're $14m behind Chicago, who are 20th and are supposed to be the defintion of basket case. Look at the top 18, and we're at best at 66 percent of their value. that's just not competitive. Not for top 5 spots, not really for playoff spots. I guess it makes us competitive for wooden spoons. This roster rebuild is long overdue, and SKC really cannot afford to miss. Based on talent alone, we are a long shot to make the playoffs without substantial upgrades, at a number of places.”
"Reid oversees the club’s business operations at the team’s new downtown office – voted Kansas City’s Coolest Office Space last month – with a staff that has more than doubled in size during his tenure." Club admin staff have doubled in size while overseeing club performance which has halved in results. Congrats! Please bring attention to Elon and his efficiency operation.
Hmmm…. If the front office is the best in MLS, who could be responsible for the Club’s performance on the field? It must be ownership for investing in cool office space rather than player transfer fees and salaries. In no way could it be the head coach and head of football operation’s fault. Happy Winter Solstice Sporting fans, this award will warm our hearts through the upcoming cold winter nights.
If we consdier that true success is in protecting your job and expanding your office kingdom, they've nailed it. If it has anything to do with improving a product, they haven't quite nailed the bullseye.
KCUR is running a promotion, where you get a scarf when you donate to their station. The scarf has teal, red, dark blue, a crown, trophies. Noticeably absent....SKC. This is when you know your are WAY down in the local pecking order.
So, a Doyle piece on SKC and the winter rebuild. It's not long, but to sum up: SKC has to do a lot. It's one of five clubs he chose to look at, though I think SKC was in there because they have to be included sometimes in a list. No player or players are identified as possible incomings. And the analysis is that our outgoings accounted for a lot of our minutes.
1. He does say this at the very top, implying it won't be too deep: Consider this your appetizer – a 10,000-foot view of the five Western Conference teams I expect to be busiest during the winter transfer window (which officially closes in, uh, the spring). 2. Do you really expect an in-depth look from league writers?
I love Doyle but he's never given a shit about KC. I just think he's bored to death with analyzing Vermes-ball, which hasn't functionally changed since 2018 (which is coincidentally the last time I saw a good piece from him on us).
Well it dropped on Fri but here is Doyle's 30 team round up. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/mls-transfer-guide-where-every-team-s-roster-stands-entering-2025 It is millimeter deep as I thought it would be. Why even mention Atuesta when you do not think it is realistic, because it is clearly not. The final line makes the read somewhat worthwhile, for a little giggle anyway. If only there were some "bigger picture" in the mind of PV.
I mean...MLS Soccer can't even figure out how to alphabetize SPORTING Kansas City. I would continue to expect millimeter deep coverage.
Doyle did mention the shallow coverage on Blue Sky in one of his things calling for people to support local writers/people that cover the teams.
This is consistently annoying. I mean, either use the S or the K, but don't switch back and forth. I'd think the K makes more sense, as they don't use the F for Cinci or the I for Miami. But whatever, pick one and always stick with it. This should be in their style guide, and style guides are gods.
Yeah I don't care which, just pick one so that when it's something like that article I know exactly where I'm scrolling to.
