It appears that Pereirinha will start in place of the still injured Abel. Pereirinha looked good agains Beira Mar, but Porto is not BM so we shall see. I wonder who PB opts for LB because if Pereirinha plays on the right and Ronny on the left it will be a field day for the Porto attack down the flanks.
WTF is with SPT? What a bunch of amateurs, 30 min in, and still no video. On top you pay 20 bucks a month for a crappy low quality video. Done cancelling my SPT immediately. With bad news comes good news. Sporting 2-0 30 minutes 1st half.
Goals from Vuckcevic and Izmailov...the first a Frango by Helton right through the wickets... SCP - 2 Tripeiros - Nil Pereirinha has looked good both offensively and defensively. Not much yet from Liedson but both Vuckcevic and Izmailov have been working hard. Tonel and Polga have looked good in the back. Porto's only real chances coming on some freekicks outside the SCP area...Rui Patricio yet to be tested.
Yeah, tell me about it. Same thing happened to me last year with bell expressvu last season. I cancelled their asses on the spot and decided to go another route The first goal, what an unbelievable frango , I mean wow See if we can hold on for the big win, this isn't over yet.........
Moment of pride for Sportinguistas. Viva Sporting! Beautiful game today! How many times do I have to say it this team belongs to Vukcevic and Izmailov now. Do not let them sit the bench any longer. They must start every game. They say we never repalced Nani. Take your pick. The rest of our signings however have been trash. Viva Sporting! Uefa Cup is next!
Very entertaining game, could have gone either way. Even after the goals there were loads of chances but many were completely wasted.
Entertaining game... I can't wait for the excuses from the Tripeiros...now that SCP owns them this year. Games Played 3 SCP wins 2 Nuff Said... Please don't bring up..."well we are in first place, etc, etc..." When you play a real team you get owned. Lucho vs SCP....nil, nil, nil.
With respect to the picture, the people over at SportTV were the culprits, not SPT or EVu. Remember, we get the feed from them. For us here in Canada, we had picture issues around the time where Moutinho was injured in the 1st half. These things happen. If it were in the control of the powers that be here, that's one thing but when it is out of their hands, there's not much that can be done...
Take it easy...watching the highlights, it looked like you guys got really lucky. If Porto put half their chances away you guys woulda lost. Have fun finishing behind Guimaraes this year Jus playing. lol
with all due respect for Sporting I sat through this game (well after the 35th minute) and it was all Porto they couldn't finish off chance after chance and only at the end of the game did sporting look like they would get a 3rd. The two goals were very lucky the first moreso then the second because Helton really should of easily picked it up. Congrats on the win but it looked like Porto domination losing to SCP luck in this one.
Well...I will have to vehemently disagree with this. While Porto did have 1 or 2 legitimate chances, SCP had the better run of play and deserved the victory. Quaresma was owned by Pereirinha and Lucho was once again shut out by SCP. He had 1 or 2 chances but nothing else. Bosingwa was eliminated from the game by Izmailov and Porto had no answer for Vuckcevic. What did you expect from Helton he is a sub par goalie and does this kind of thing with regularity. Look at it this way SCP were 1 bad ref call away from sweeping 3 games from "Mighty" Porto. As for luck having anything to do with this game...well Porto buy their luck and SCP earn their luck. Nuff Said. SCP shit on the Tripeiros in this game.
porto had a couple of easy chances 2 score, but really Sporting raced into a two goal lead and began playing counter-attacking football and sporting always looked dangerous on the break so I dont see it so much as Sporting lucking out... like JLR said, Helton is helton so if anyone wants to complain about our first goal tell Porto to buy another goal keeper. Porto has trouble playing vs SCP weve seen this alot lately especially since Jesualdo became manager of Porto. If only some of the other portuguese clubs refused to lay down and take days off against Porto it seems like many clubes go in with the expectation they are going to lose and it makes them play worse vs Porto. when teams play against Sporting or Benfica they seem to play better. Perhaps just bitter talk from a bitter sporting fan but at the end of the day we are way behind and Porto is champions of Portugal for the 3rd season in a row. Whens the carlsberg cup final?
The game has two halves and so does the season. How many matches have been lost and won in the second half because it was it had the opposite performaces from each team ? Sporting can still win the title, it's obviously not mathematically impossible. It's a long season and the 2nd half just started, positively, mind you.
OK, I'll bite! I came here to see what the Sportinguistas had to say about this friendly game (did you all see PDC with Soares Franco in the tribuna at half-time telling him to appreciate the gift and "now go get the lampioes?") I was caught by surprise that some people weren't gracious about the whole ordeal... Anyway, you can disagree all you want, you just got an opinion from a neutral party (GoodDead) and he was right on with his comments... How can you say Porto had 1 or 2 legitimate chances??? Did you really watch the game or did you blackout when Porto was on your side of the field (which was most of the game BTW). Sporting had the better run???? To prove that Porto was all over you guys thru out the whole game, here's the link to the "minuto a minuto - jogada a jogada" from your Sporting newspaper (Record): http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=773064&idCanal=6 please count the amount of shots on goal you had in the game or even chances to score (before and after the gifts given by Helton and then the linesman) The same way Record conveniently chose to ignore the fact that your 2nd goal was off-sides, all Sportinguistas here made no mention of it as well... You support your "SCP had the better run of play and deserved the victory" comment by saying Quaresma was owned by Pereirinha and Lucho was once again shut out by SCP... Geez, Lucho had 2 of the 5 best Porto chances to score in the game! Having said that, were Mouquinho, Fat Assed Model Boy Veloso, Ranhonoli in the game? because I saw Paulo Assuncao dominate the whole middle of the field by himself! How about Levezinho? other than the time he tried to break Helton's leg on the play that should have gotten him thrown out of the game and the only chance Sporting had to score in the whole 2nd half (90' + 1 minute) no one noticed he was playing. Did you? Anyway, this year (and including this last game) our so-called subpar goalie has allowed less than HALF of the goals your apprentices of Mr. Piteiro (Ricardo) together have allowed! Given these stats, I rather stick with Helton on my side. The "1 bad ref call away" you mention, was that the noncall on Tonel's handball in the area (penalty) for the SuperCup game??? Admit Porto did everything but score, indeed luck wasn't on our side, but that's OK, we don't need to buy luck like you say, we have proven on the field we are superior to other teams (something your team hasn't been this year) and that is why we still have the big lead. If I were a lagarto, rather than trying to inflame what surely is another lost cause (season) I would worry about making sure the Sporting Lisbon Academy is working hard on making another sell-cheap soon to be star (somewhere else) player! Either way, I still rather see you lagartos grasp 2nd place from the lampioes!
Sometimes you play a great game and lose, and sometimes you take your chances when they come, capitalize, play somewhat okay and come away with the points. Porto was the overall better team IMHO, but it was Sporting who capitalized on their opportunities, played pretty decent, and won the game. Helton let in a frango that was Ricardo-esque, Lucho couldn't hit the net if his life depended on it, and Quaresma was an absolute non-factor (this much was due to the fantastic play of Pereirinha - my MOTM). Porto dominated the ball posession but as most Sporting fans know, that means sh!t if you can't put the ball in the back of the net. I also have to agree with the offside on the 2nd Sporting goal, because Izmailov was a bit offside, but hey we all get calls that go our way and sometimes don't go our way. We bitch about it when its against us and turn a blind eye when its in our favour. Happens to the best of us. Liedson was nowhere, but Veloso had a solid game in DM - finally! - and Rui Patricio was solid when he was needed the most. All in all, Sporting deserved this win and needed this boost of confidence more than anything...
Now there's a post I could live with until we you said "Sporting deserved this win"... You contradicted yourself by 1st saying Porto was the overall better team in your opinion and then you finish by saying Sporting deserved the win??? Sporting capitalized their ONLY chance. Please do not count the 2nd goal as a chance because for that, Lisandro's goal had it been allowed like Sporting's 2nd, and before Sporting even scored, would have put Porto up 1-0.
I hate to lose too, but . . . the fat lady hasn't sung yet, so who knows ?? Sporting may yet win it all.
Take it like a man friendly or not you lost. Now try to pick up the pieces or else. Levas com a Sertã na testa e ficas eliminado de outra Taca.
The bottom line is that FC Porto just dont play very well against sporting recently. CSD, porto dominated possesion and so forth but they didnt score any goals.. once sporting had the 2-0 lead scp was playing for counter-attacks.. porto was in danger of conceding a goal themselves when they were attacking and leaving all that space behind. its a game that anyone can argue could of or should have been 3-0 for sporting or 2-2 draw or a win for porto but porto didnt score any goals... when goals are scored they change the way teams play and ppl seem to be forgetting this. playing 2-0 up is different then 2-1 or 0-0 or 0-1 teams change their approach and their mentality. if the game was 0-0 in the 75th minute do you think porto would be getting these chances to score? probaby not sporting would be pressing more in midfield and the game would be tight as we usually see in classicos when the game is tied late on..when they are 2-0 up early in the game they sit back and try to hit you on the counter which most teams do when they have a 2-0 lead. Maybe Porto would score and be down 2-1 and Sporting score again and win the game 3-1 ?!? I can go on for hours talking a bunch of "What if" scenario but at the end of the day Sporting scored and Porto did not score. how many wins does Porto have against sporting in recent matches? in fact not very many it must be only 1 win in the last 5 or 6 games and that just shows Sporting is the better team head to head right now, but in the league its a different story sporting is inconsistent and drop way too many points we are far behind in the standings. Porto supporters should just be glad they only face Sporting 2 times in the league because clubs like leiria braga pacos guimaraes leixoes academica are always eager to bend over for porto.. the standings show porto is the best team in portugal, but we still have plenty of time to go and sporting supporters for now can hang their hat on the fact this great Porto team just never seems to impress against us.
Porto had better chances to score and didn't, or couldn't, finish. Sporting capitalized on theirs - and yes, I will count the 2nd goal because in all fairness that happens to all teams. While Porto may have been the overall better team based on the chances that they had, because they did have their chances to score, why can't I say that Sporting deserved to win? They defended well, still played the ball well, managed to score 2 goals from sources not called Liedson, and IMHO deserved this win...
I take my words back from about a year ago: Sporting did not deserve to beat Bayern Munich when they lost to them 0-1 at home... Sporting played much better than Bayern but didn't score any goals, so.... there!
