That was a huge win! Puts us in 4th place. NE's first home loss this season. Give Malte MOTM, for his strong defense and incredible game winning goal!! This has been such a fun, and wacky season so far! Oh yeah forgot to mention, we won in spite of Farsi, who was pitiful tonight.
Farsi wasn't that bad on defense but man there is a clear step up on offense and respect shown to gressel. It really opens things up. Wonder if the yellow sort of inspired Malte to give it his all to end the night knowing he wouldn't play Saturday. Maybe not start, but one of the midfielders will need rotated. Cheba will probably see some minutes on Saturday. Midfield rotation and rest for Moreira is needed.
It wasn't much fun watching Yeboah repeatedly get pantsed. Defensively the guy is a plank. Aiden Morris had a nice game.
Only the third time this season that the Crew has picked up additional points after 80' and two of them have been via set piece goals by defenders against the Revs.
Agreed. But he did have one really bad moment early, after Yaw sent a bad pass his way, when he rolled his eyes, shrugged, and stood there like a victim rather than getting the hell back on defense. Hopefully Nagbe keeps shaping him, because that was not his finest moment. My God, though, it was nice to see this team steal points the way they have had points stolen from them. It was a great road win, and a solid effort. My Grouchy point is merely a bonus.
NE GK was horrible and it’s so nice to be on the correct end of set piece late gm winner. I didn’t expect a win but thanks to a error by a team that’s unraveling. NE still has a GIH but a tough schedule that likely sees them to continue to self implode. We need at least a draw in Atlanta. a win and some help Saturday would be nice separation Saturday
Actually, no. ORL, 57 pts: NE, at TFC PHI, 54 pts: NSH, at NE CREW: 53 pts: at ATL, MTL NE: 52 pts: at ORL, at NSH, PHI If we win twice, that is 59 pts. Philly & NE cannot both hit 59 because they play each other. Philly needs to win out to go above 58, and NE's max with a loss to Philly is 58. If they go WWD, for 59, we'd have more wins, and Philly would be stuck on 58, best case. If we do not beat ATL, then we need help for a top 4.
The CB was ball watching because he wanted to go help then decided not to. His indecisive movement left a opening and Rossi smartly settled in the open space.
I finally got to watch a whole Crew game for the first time in a long time. It was on my phone so definitely not the best experience but ill take what I can get. Throughout August and into early September ive been super busy with a ton of birthdays in the family where the parties are usually Saturday, and since the middle of September, ive been on strike, so work concerns have been dominating my mind, not soccer. Ive completely fallen behind on keeping up with the fantasy team, the grouchy voting, etc....lol. I havent even been to a Crew game this year yet, and im not certain ill be able to at all. Good to see were still mostly a good team. Anyone want to give me like a brief synopsis of how the team is performing, especially the past few weeks? I try to at least watch the highlights of each game, so I know the outcomes and whos scoring, but I dont have a real sense of how these guys have been doing since im not watching for them 90 - 180 mins weekly.
*caution long post incoming* *TLDR* Crew are FUN!!!! Sometimes life gets in the way. I hope your strike situation works in your favor. Good luck! Let's see, what have the last few months been like for the team..... 1. Rossi in, Zelerayán out: Rossi is faster and a more willing defender. He doesn't bring the ooohs and aaahs from the crowd like Lucas did. I miss him embarrassing a defender or 2 at every home game. I don't know if we're exactly better for the change, just different. I think we attack with more speed and urgency to get into the final third which I think is a very good thing, but we miss a bit of magic. 2. Gressel and Camacho: Both guys hit the ground running and have seemingly fit right in. Gressel is big, strong, and confident. I stil don't think he's had a really solid game for us though. He's fallen asleep on defense several times. While we all know his crossing is excellent, he just hasn't seemed to be able to find anyone either with a ground pass or lofted ball. He has 1 assist in 7 starts and 500+ minutes. I want more and hope he can find some form. Camacho has been solid if unspectacular. He's been hit and miss with his vertical passing which was what i thought would be the biggest thing he brought over Zawadski or Moreira back there in the middle. We're still playing the Nancy style, getting EVERYONE into the attacking half of the field, pressing for overloads and trying to find the open man once the defense starts to scramble. It's fun to watch as the ball moves into the "zone 14" prime assist zones and 3-5 guys all start making off the ball runs in every direction and someone inevitably finds some space. We still leave ourselves exposed to counter attacks and forced turnovers that lead to some hockey style odd man rushes. This is concerning for the playoffs as we've really struggled to keep clean sheets and having to score 3 goals to win isn't something that can be done when you have Andre Blake or Celentano in the goal standing on their head. I still think this team has an extra gear that they have hinted is there but haven't hit. They remain super fun to watch and the games are fully of excitement. I've really enjoyed watching them play this season and it's been a really nice change from the 9 years we watched the 4-2-3-1 stuff from our previous 2 coaches.
Next game, if everyone is a go save the suspended Malte. -------------------Schulte---------------- ---Moreira---Camacho---Zawadzki--- Gressel---Nagbe---Morris---Yeboah -----------Matan----------Rossi------------ ---------------------Cucho----------------- Bench: Bush; Cheberko, Vallecilla; Medranda; Farsi; Arfsten, Molino; Ramirez, JRR.
I think Vallecilla or Cheberko start at LCB i don’t think we start all 3 center mids might see more Rotation up top but no idea what Nancy might do.
Not our best game, but not a bad one either. The last 10 minutes were very good. Props to Cucho for holding the ball and recycling in stoppage time when we all know he wants to score. That gave the Crew about 2 minutes of possession when it was needed.
