2 big games and 1point this time 2 big games on the road in congestion. Time to see what we are made of because if we can’t get at least 3 points then both Nashville & Atlanta will likely pass us up.
I don't know about this team. The trend is to lose on the road against good teams. I see it continuing, but hoping for a tie.
Start Ramirez? Did some quick digging on the #Crew96 record when Ramirez/Matan start together v. when 1 starts over the other. When they start together: 7W-4D-1LJust Ramirez starts: 5-0-1Just Matan starts: 2-4-6Point being: Ramirez HAS to be in the XI going forward— MLS Gone Wild ⭐️ (@MLSGoneWild) October 3, 2023
I think it made sense to start Matan in the Orlando/Chicago/Dallas swing based on match ups in the midfield. Philly too based on their quick transition. Nancy shifted the front 3 a lot with montreal. Matan hasn't been the problem, but he may not be the solution in the front 3. For New England, it makes sense to start Ramirez for one of the front 3. Our best performances of the year featured a Ramirez/Cucho/Matan front 3 (cincinnati and club america), sorry Rossi.

The Crew stinks at defending corners. They have coughed up way too many points because they stink at it. Their proposed solution: keep doing what they've been doing, only not quite so badly. Yes, everyone can see that it comes down to making "mistakes". We can see that when an opponent is standing at the six with nary a defender anywhere near him. https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...continue-to-plague-columbus-crew/71037101007/ Personally, I would think that it might be time to look at a different approach. Maybe it's ancient history, but Sigi used to end every single practice with 20 minutes of set piece work. His teams somehow managed not to make "mistakes" every time out. Sigi hated giving up cheap ones.
In any case, regarding tonight: I know it's both a joke and a cliche (seems like there ought to be a word for that) but at some point games really are "must win" matches. The Crew is finishing up the season with some roadies and it's very difficult to see them making the top 4 if they don't win at least one of them. Winning this game could be pivotal. Losing it won't be a death sentence either but it's awfully tough to advance through the playoffs via road games.
I think Ramirez should start vrs NE but let’s just remember that Ramirez wasn’t playing that well and that’s how Matan went back to starting. It’s a congested schedule so they definitely need to rotate some guys. Ramirez slows down your attack and doesn’t press as well as Matan. So it’s always going to be on how Nancy wants to attack certain teams. But it’s hard to argue against Ramirez and the team winning. The offense was fine vrs Orlando but didn’t look to well at home vrs Philly. Also Matan isn’t much of a finisher but creates chances. Ramirez doesn’t create much but is a much better finisher. Both seem to not play 90 minutes very often recently. In the end I’m more concerned about the back line and our GK rather than which 3 guys are up top
Agree. It isn't that any one player is problematic. It is that starting three tiny guys up top makes the team in general too feeaking small, hurts our defense on set pieces, and largely defeats the point of having Gressel on the team because there is no one to cross to. FWIW, Ramirez has not scored in ages. But I still start him.
A loss and an either team getting 3 points in the Philly v Atlanta game and we don’t get a top 4 spot. If someone has to win it’s better if it’s Atlanta because we play them Saturday. It’s not a must win game , It’s two must win games. Again Orlando & Philly games were critical and we got 1 point. If we lose both these games we will be in 6th and possibly 7th place. The teams 2-7 are in a logjam and now is the time to get hot and win games. If we falter down the stretch and put ourselves in a bad position it will make it that much harder to win on the road in the playoffs. We have to learn to win on the road (in congested schedule) , Must Win Games are every game at this point. I think our lack of depth at CB & CDM will be our undoing. On top of an attacking system with a mediocre GK. I hope the Crew prove me wrong because I want us to win so bad. But all i see in our future is Ls. I have no faith that we suddenly play good defense on the road on short rest.
This is why If JRR CANT beat out Ramirez and be that big guy (he is 6ft) in the 3 up top then we need a big young and fast Striker in the off-season. Regularly starting Cucho/Diego /Alex should not happen. Get a Striker who can run and press but still 6ft + and can play 90m. We can add a DP and some more u22s and one of those needs to be a young striker that fits the criteria. I like Ramirez but we need an upgrade. Hopefully this playoff stretch he has a great run and helps us win a Cup. But long term he is not the answer.
I think Matan has been starting because Rossi doesn’t bring the dynamic change of attack that Zelerayan offered. It was lacking when Rossi first came in and Matan can switch direction quickly. Problem is Matan sucks with his final ball. He’s really not productive against good teams. So, I’d give Ramirez a start and bring JRR off the bench. Gotta change something up.

Camacho and Gressel on the bench is mildly surprising. Zawadzki has definitely earned the opportunity for more minutes, not so sure about Farsi.
Lets. Go. Crew. Could also use some draws in the NSH/ORL and PHI/ATL games. Let's gain 2 points on everyone.
