Don't believe anyone has posted this before, so in view of the Spurs/Rovers match tomorrow I thought I'd toss this out. Judging from the running BF/KK arguments here, I'd suggest the surest way to get a nil-nil draw in the match would be to have Keller play for Rovers and Friedel for Spurs, since Keller would save everything Friedel would've let past him and vice versa. The Independent (London) September 30, 2002, Monday HEADLINE: FOOTBALL: THE SEASON SO FAR AVERAGE MARKS FOR 2002-03 BEST GOALKEEPERS 1= P Schmeichel (Manchester City) 6.7 1= P Robinson (Leeds United) 6.7 3= M Schwarzer (Middlesbrough) 6.4 3= B Friedel (Blackburn Rovers) 6.4 3= K Keller (Tottenham Hotspur) 6.4 6 S Given (Newcastle United) 6.3 7 C Cudicini (Chelsea) 6.2 8 D Kiely (Charlton Athletic) 6.1 9 J Jaaskelainen (Bolton Wanderers) 6 10 N Vaesen (Birmingham City) 5.9
Heh, I think keeper is the only position on the field where you won't find either a ManU or Arsenal player listed in the 3 at the end of the season.
Odd. With both keepers lack of a coif, I would have figured that splitting hairs is the least of their worries - c'mon it had to be said. Well maybe not. The lack of upcoming and established English keepers has been a major problem for the national team and the sole reason for the continued appearance of David Semen between the pipes.
Is anybody else suprised to see Schmeichel at the top of this list? I have watched bits and pieces of Man City this year and have seen him get torched a few times, and seen him make some very questionable plays (running up on corners, only to get beat on the counter).
No I didn't, And i am sure there is good reason, I have watched a few games and not been as impressed as I usually am with him, but I obviously wasnt getting the full picture.
Yeah, Schmeichel was amazing against Southampton, who could easily have had a half dozen goals. As it was, he kept it to two. But the fact that he's been able to shine so brightly is clearly attributable to the porous Man City defense. I don't think he'd be ranked number one if at Man U.
