SAN DIEGO - For the third consecutive year, Channel 4 San Diego will be the television home of the San Diego Spirit. The broadcast season kicks off with the Spirit home opener Saturday, April 5 at 6 p.m. against the Boston Breakers at Torero Stadium. With exclusive rights to non-nationally televised games of the San Diego Spirit, Channel 4 San Diego will carry 11 home and away matches during the 2003 season.

Veteran play-by-play announcer Chris Marlowe and new color analyst Jillian Ellis, head women's soccer coach at UCLA, will be in the broadcast booth at the 7,035-seat Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego. San Diego sports anchor Jim Stone will handle play-by-play duties for Marlowe on April 5 and April 27.

For the second consecutive year, Channel 4 San Diego will also produce "In the Spirit with Julie Foudy," a half-hour show hosted by Foudy that gives viewers an inside look at the San Diego Spirit through highlights, interviews, features, player profiles and the popular "Foudy-Cam."

Channel 4 San Diego's Spirit telecasts draw ratings that are among the best in the league. The station received an Emmy Award in 2002 for One on One with Jane Mitchell featuring Spirit stars Foudy, MacMillan and Fawcett.

Cox Channel 3 Orange County, which has telecast Spirit games the previous two years, will again be joined by Las Vegas Metro Channel 48 as affiliates on the Spirit television network. The Cox Communications channels will air various Spirit telecasts throughout the year.

Owned and operated by Cox Communications, Channel 4 San Diego televises 250 live sporting events a year including 145 Padres games, San Diego State Aztecs football and basketball, and CIF football and basketball championships. The station has created innovative and exclusive programming designed for the San Diego audience including the award-winning San Diego Insider, Forefront, and One on One.

The WUSA's national television schedule and partners will be announced in the near future. San Diego's 11-game local television package features the most games broadcast of any team in the league.
