Jim Gabarra is in, A. Harris has moved on and Salem has been exchanged for picks. Otherwise a pretty quiet offseason. There is still a lot of time left, but thus far no big splash signings. Lots of teams seem to be improving, so it'll be interesting to see what the Spirit do to try and keep pace.
Coaching change a huge loss. In addition Krieger and Dunn will be gone for a substantial part of the season due to Olympics.
though not confirmed, Katie Stengel is probably coming to the Spirit. She had a good season, last year at Bayern Munich with I believe 9 goals. But with all the money BM got, keeps buying other top notch players and unfortunately Katie's been sitting mostly on the bench. So good move for the Spirit to acquire her. From what I've seen; she's a strong finisher, but don't think she's got the speed to replace Dunn(if Dunn gets on the Olympic squad)
Even if Dunn does go to the OGs, the Spirit still have plenty of speed up front. Having a strong finisher, even one who's a tad bit slower than some of her teammates, will probably be a great thing.
Hopefully Cheyna Williams will adapt quickly and be able to make an instant impact. A great asset to have while the NT is at the OG. Also, could be a great help for Dunn. A lot of times she was left alone in a sea of defenders last year. It would be nice to have that speedy support.
The league will be shut down for the OG's. But yes, she and Stengal should help the offense a good deal.
I totally enjoyed this podcast interview with Alli Murphy- bubbly and articulate. http://www.vivathematadors.com/2016...t=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
I like this preseason schedule. Very curious to see the results. Does anyone know if they live stream preseason games? Preseason Schedule: Date Time Opponent Saturday, March 19 7 pm ET University of Virginia Saturday, March 26 4 pm ET Penn State University Saturday, April 2 4 pm ET University of North Carolina Saturday, April 9 7 pm ET Duke University
They didn't stream it last year, but there was live audio commentary. I expect it will be the same this season. I think this is the year they'll finally beat UVa, but Duke could be a bigger challenge.
I don't think they stream the preseason games. I wouldn't mind if they did for the coverage, but I plan on going to get a feel for this years team. Can't wait!
.@WashSpirit preseason roster. 5 of the non-rostered players were a part of prior Spirit reserve teams. pic.twitter.com/qxtCq6S72A— Jennifer Gordon (@jgordon0319) March 14, 2016 They have a bunch of interesting forwards and Dunn isnt even listed there.

For example: Jim Gabarra told me he hopes to get the Washington Spirit into D.C. United’s new stadium when it opens.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) April 13, 2016
Okay, so this isn't exactly a 2016-relevant news article, but I don't feel starting a new thread, so I'll just drop this here... There's been chatter of the Spirit joining DCU in the new downtown SSS when it gets completed. The stadium finally seems to be going through, but it won't be completed until June 2018 or so. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ted-but-stadium-work-will-run-into-18-season/
I really hope so. We've already decided to not buy season tickets for next year as it takes us 3 hours to get to a game, and some days it just seems too much. If they moved, it would cut down on some time.
