Jay Jay Okocha is nominated for the PFA's Player of The Year.

    http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,1192538,00.html

It's amazing when you consider that he's not even in line to be Bolton's player of the year (that will be Kevin Davies). Okocha has no league goals and recently just got his first league assist.... wait for it.... when a Villa defender kicked the ball at his arse and it defelected into the path of Pedersen to score (I kid you not)

A truly shocking decision and it just goes to show it's all about the name of the player, not what they've done.

Likewise how the hell is Wayne Rooney shortlisted for young player of the year?

Indeed, which makes it even more shocking.

I think I`m right in saying they vote in January aswell. It somtimes means players who do well in the first half of the year get better represented than those who play well toward the end.

Oh God, I can't wait for this one

I imagine he'll regale us with his theories of why Sun Jihai wasn't nominated as well. Its racial bias damn it!

I'm just amazed Carlton Cole hasn't been nominated.

I know he wouldn't win, but i would have liked to see current PFA Player of the Month Alan Smith on the shortlist as well.

Hmmm. Well only by the preposterous inclusion of Okocha does the theory of Alan Smith's place in such a list become any less preposterous, to be honest. Five of the six players mentioned are without a shadow of a doubt amongst the best performers in the league this season. Smudger, by contrast, has worked hard, been a gritty benefit to Leeds' struggle for survival, but has hardly been a performer on the level of the others. Okocha most definitely excluded, of course.

Have to admit i was also very surprised Okocha's in thr frame. Who the hell makes these decisions ? Very interesting to see no Man Utd players nominated in either category, but i feel rightly so. I'm very surprised Sir Alex hasn't had something to say about that !! LOL !!

I would have gone for Forsell and Ronaldo instead of Rooney and Johnson for young player, both of them have done a lot, lot more.

There is a real lack of defenders and especially goalkeepers nominated this year, instead of Okocha I would have been happy with Campbell, Cole or Bridge, all very good performers this year.

I think part of the reason Okacha was nominated was because he had a few great performances during Bolton's run to the Carling Cup final. Otherwise I don't know how they could justify it it.

as an efc fan, i have a vested interest on 2 counts...its been widely touted we're on the sniff for jay jay...many are blowing their biscuits over the matchday progs, while others (like me) arent too enthused. we're desperate for a solid def.mid (dont any of you dare say gravesen already fits the bill...trust me on this) and all signs point to the davis deal being rekindled in the summer. aside from that, we need someone on the right as well, but i really dont think jay jays the answer.

he has his moments, but theyve been few and far between this season. and certainly not enough for the pfa.

as for our wayne...hes not there yet. terry should win it hands down (think how good hes going to be in 5 years time - the mind boggles). wayne (and moyes for that matter) were always going to be on course for an 'interesting' second season and thats what came to pass. wayne was indeed overweight coming back from the summer - so much so that he took ages to get going...and hes yet to reach the heights of last year.

take into account that he has service (ha!)from one of the worst midfields in the premiership and youll realise hes had a pretty good year.

henry better be looking over his shoulder next year though...

    nick

ps - can a player win the young players and the grown-ups trophy the same year?
