wow, huge win for West Ham (nice not to be fighting relegation)

Huge disappointment for Liverpool. I suppose it was the fault of the American owners somehow..

i havent seen the replays but Freddy Lungeforit?

the guy goes down easier than Ballack or the portugese national team. Likely a poor call by the ref.

Ljungberg can indeed dive with the best of them but as it happens this was a genuine penalty, Carragher’s left foot took softboy’s ankle away from him, the ref had a good view of it and there were no protests at all from the Liverpool players. Noble took the penalty well, hit it low into the corner with decent pace. Had to be good as the Liverpool GK had dived the right way and wasn’t too far away from the ball. Good composure from our young Hammer.

First 25 mins of the game had the midfield cancelling each other out, both teams were basically playing variations of 451 which I think surprised WH as they were expecting Liverpool to come onto them and we then attack them on the break, there were a few chances for both teams but no strong attempts on goal. As the half went on WH started to play more freely and had the two best goal chances of the half, the first fell to Boa Morte who was 6 yards out in front of a pretty open goal and he got under the ball and his shot went well over the bar. The second was a pacey free kick into the box from Noble that deflected off a Liverpool defender and with the GK beaten hit the cross bar.

Second half Liverpool were on top after the restart and Green had to make a good save down on the ground after a goal mouth scramble, however WH then came back into it only for Boa Morte to waste yet another good goal scoring chance within the box. By this time the manager and certainly the Hammers fans had had more than enough of him so he was hooked along with Bowyer after around 60 mins and Ashton and Etherington came on. This increased out attacking options as we went 442 and with our defence playing well Liverpool didn’t really pose much of a threat. There were claims for a Neill handball in the penalty box which wasn’t given. I’ve seen a few replays, one angle looked like it could have hit his arm after it came off his chest, the other two angles less damning so if it’s not conclusive it did definitely hit his arm after replays and slow mo then it’s difficult to expect the ref to give it in real time.

Spector came on with about 10 mins left, he replaced Cole but went into midfield as we reverted to 451 to protect a point. Our record against Liverpool is so bad having lost the last 6 league games so a point would have been very welcome. I don’t recall Spector getting a touch of the ball, though I guess he must have during his time on the pitch. After the 90 mins, the 3 mins injury time went up on the board and into the last minute of injury time an excellent counter attack by WH saw Ljungberg being brought down in the box as I described earlier on.

So 3 unexpected, but not particularly underserved, points for WH, but I must say Liverpool look a shadow of what they ought to be. Far too many average players in their side, only Gerrard tonight showed any willingness to take the game to WH. For all his skill Torres looked like he was sulking every time he was beaten by the defence, and Kuyt is a classic example of a one season wonder in the PL. A disappointing night for their supporters who brought one of the largest away followings at WH this season but obviously the Hammers fans and players were rocking at the end.

Oh no doubt. I still hear Liverpool fans saying that Hicks disrupted the whole flow of the team by his actions, and the players weren't able to focus in training, etc. It's all complete bs. This team that rafa put together simply isn't good enough to challenge for a prem title.

Good for Spector to get some minutes. I just wish we could see more of him. Still, there aren't many younger defenders getting significant minutes in the EPL. We forget how young the kid is since he's been on our radars for so long.
