That writer Duncan Castles is now saying Spector will sign for Brum as Leeds refused to meet his wage demands.

Not sure whether or not this guy knows what hes talking about or not, but I think hes got a story or two right before.

I think the championship is exactly the level he should be at now, hopefully with a chance to earn a midfield spot.

I looked around on the Birmingham forums and their fans are reacting appropriately imo, something along the lines of; "fair enough signing, he is on a free and not complete crap". So there is that going for him...

This is already a huge leap in public perception of Jon since a few years ago.

I bet he scores 6 goals next year, three against West Ham away and three against West Ham at home. THe rest of the year? Not so much.

If they meet ManU in the carling cup or FA, He might throw a couple more in.

Seriously, how do you motivate this guy? All the tools, just not the fire.

That's quite a lot for a Championship club right? I'd imagine he must be one of the highest paid on the team.

I'm hopeful he will see significant time at midfield. Good luck to him. I think this will be a solid move.

Re: Spector Wonderland - The West Ham Revelation

This is from a Birmingham fan:

Everything I have seen from their fans indicates that they all believe he will be playing fullback for him, many think he will play a lot on the left... madness I tell you.

I hold out hope that Spector and his agent made it clear that he would be signing with a shot at a midfield spot.

It would be very disappointing if Spector dropped down a whole level just for a fullback gig. He would have been better off looking at other countries, in order to get same/similar pay + midfield gig and same/level or better competition.

The guy from the Birmingham forum could be right about Spector not playing central midfield. I wonder about his chances at right midfield, which would definitely be better than fullback.

Sorry for (or "you're welcome for", depending on your preferences) the generic thread title folks. I used the discussion from the old thread to start a new one.

He would have had a lot better shot playing in midfield while also playing fullback for Leeds. Oh well.

as an american i just hope he does well.

Not to go all national team but from that perspective i hope he plays center back because i considering out midfield depth i don't think he can knock out the guys in front of him. I'd rather see him play for club in a spot that's he's got a chance of getting at the Nat team level. Central midfield i think is a long shot. Good luck to him though. I think he'll do ok.

Not a fan of this news. I think we already know what he looks like at fullback.

I'll also hold out hope that he beats out the competition and gets a look at midfield.

Who was the last American to play at Birmingham City before Spector? Kirovski?

Re: Spector Wonderland - The West Ham Revelation

Now that it is official a lot more Blues fans seem to be getting educated on Spector and talking to Hammers supporters, so the tune seems to be changing and all of a sudden a number of them seem to think the midfield competition is not all that formidable after all.

On the other hand they don't feel so great about him as defensive cover anymore either lol.

Anyway, it is just fans, what the ******** do they know anyway?

Re: Spector Wonderland - The West Ham Revelation

I agree with you. I have a hard time seeing a club like Birmingham City being able to pay 15k a wk and 3k for games. Aren't they in financial meltdown? He made 1.7 million dollars last year. The wage he wants would only be about 300k less, that is if I remember my conversion rate right. A Championship club would have a hard time playing that. Maybe he meant 15k a week in dollars, otherwise I can't see him getting that much. That would be about $780K without game money.
