    Ugh.

    See:

    http://www.suntimes.com/output/soccer/cst-spt-soccin03.html

    at the bottom:

LOCAL: Jonathan Spector, a central defender on the U.S. under-17 team from Arlington Heights, suffered a fractured left clavicle in a 3-0 loss to Korea in an international tournament last week in Busan, South Korea. Spector's status for the FIFA U-17 World Championship Aug. 13-30 in Finland is uncertain.

This begs the question, when will he be back at full speed and will it be in time for the U17 Champioship?

A friend of mine broke his collarbone a few years back, it took him about 2 months to get back into form (but he was a wrestler, so he had to wait longer). It really just depends on the severity of the break, if its relativly minor, he could be running and the such in a few weeks.

Hope this doesn't ruin his transfer.

This bears a depressing resemblance to the 2001 U17 team when, a few weeks before the U17 WC its top defender, Chad Marshall, suffered a hip flexor injury.
He healed enough to play and he toughed through it in T&T but he wasn't the same player and his performance suffered and the team suffered as a result.

I think he injured it in early August and the team's first game in Tobago was September 15 so there is a little more time here and a collar bone isn't quite as hampering for a soccer player as a hip injury is. I'm not saying it doesn't hamper a player, just not quite as badly as a hip.

My 5 year old broke his collarbone last year and was back at full speed in 4 weeks. Really depends on how bad the break is.

true.. It isnt as simple as say playing with a cast on your wrist, but he should be able to begin light practice within 2 weeks.. unfortunatly a sling is the only "cure" for it, and hopefully he can get his fitness back, or attempt to maintain it slightly during his rest...
