Raul is usually called Raul Gonzalez

but his full name given is Raul Gonzalez Blanco.

and Iker Casillas is Iker Casillas Fernández

    etc. etc

I noticed this in other sports like cyclist

    Iban Mayo Diez

So what is proper term for the last two parts?

Gonzalez/Casillas/Mayo are the last names and Blanco/Fernandex/Diez are.....also last names?
    (one from each parent, perhaps?)

    can you explain? Thanks.

The last names are from both the father and mother. In the US it is custom to use your fathers last name, in Spain (and in other countries?) you will use both your parents names (for example mine is Arenas Moreno).

    Gracias!

So is Raul Gonzalez used more often than Raul Gonzalez Blanco?

Certainly Raul Gonzalez is used more often than Raul Gonzalez Blanco. Gonzalez would be his fathers last name (and generally is referred more than the full name).

But sometimes you can find that a second (mother's) name is used instead of the first, if the first is a very common one and the second isn't like in Fernando (Ruiz) Hierro or Quique (Sanchez) Flores, although this is uncommon.

Full names are not very used, unless you got two guys with same first name and need to difference them.
