Sporting has been awarded a 3-0 win over Sevilla. It seems 27-years-old Trinidad Espejo (just signed from Sporting) was registered by mistake in the farm team, and only players younger than 23 can play in the first team like that. Sevilla will also have to pay 500€, a ridiculously high fine considering the champion only gets 1300€.

Therefore, the table is now like this:

    1. Athletic 3
    2. Sporting 3
    3. Atlético 3
    4. Espanyol 3
    5. Levante LP 3
    6. Rayo 3
    7. Valencia 3
    8. Levante 3
    9. R. Sociedad 0
    10. Collerense 0
    11. Olivenza 0
    12. Zaragoza 0
    13. Barcelona 0
    14. St. Gabriel 0
    15. Sevilla 0
    16. Lagunak 0

On the other hand, Barcelona played on Wednesday a friendly against Olympique Lyon, and lost 3-0:

Athletic keeps comfortable in top winning 1-6 away.
Barcelona lost again (last season only lost once), and have scored no goals yet. Doesn't sound good for Barca to face Arsenal in the Champions League round.

Sorry for the delay. Two rounds last week.
    Ahtletic remains only unnbeaten team
Barcelona reaches 3rd position. Seems focusing only in the league was good for them
On the bottom, after 9 games, Lagunak scored their first goal. Not looking good.

Spain is playing a friendly against Denmark, no goals at half time. You can watch it here: http://www.clubseleccion.tv/home/es

    Spain's line-up:
    Pons
    Paredes - Nicolau - Ruth - Ibarra
    Calderón - Meseguer
    Priscila - Hermoso - Adriana
    Boquete

It's Irene Paredes' first match in the senior NT. Atlético's GK Lola Gallardo could also make her debut today.

I apologize if I am disrupting the post; but, I have a question regarding Spain's better clubs (ex. - Barca & Espanyol, etc) in comparison to US women's soccer clubs. How are they compared to the W-league and NWSL teams? To give an idea, the local teams for me are Washington Spirit and Washington Spirit Reserves/Formerly DC United Women. There is also the Chesapeake Charge in the WPSL Elite. I have been searching for this kind of information for what seems like weeks and would appreciate even an opinion. I just found this topic via google, and haven't searched the rest of the forum so - again - my apologies if I've disrupted the topic.

Well I don't have any first hand knowledge of the Spanish teams or the US W-League . But Veronica "Vero" Boquete who is very likely Spains best player moved from the Spanish League to the US W-league for better conditions to develope (and that proabaly include playing in a better team) and she did play in Espanyol. That was just three years ago and while the Spanish league is developing rather fast so they may have caught up with W-League they have hardly conme close to the NWSL's teams level yet (the top Spanish teams are still pretty far behind the top European teams, which due to the WCL is easier to compare with).

I think the Spanish league is enjoyable and very good for a disorganized amateur championship, but certainly we are far behind Europe's top teams and the NWSL. The objective right now should be reaching the Champions League's quarterfinals for the first time. Not facing Arsenal in the Round of 32/16 every year would help :D

There's no league this weekend nor the following; Barcelona has played a friendly against Sunnana which ended in a 1-1 draw. With 4 weeks remaining Athletic has respectively a 3 and 5 points advantage over Barcelona and Atlético after the latter's past weekend loss against Levante, which has made a great season considering they have a rather limited team. These are the remaining fixtures that will decide the title:
    · April 14: Atlético-Athletic, Barcelona-Sevilla
    · April 21: Athletic-Valencia, Collerense-Barcelona, Espanyol-Atlético
    · April 28: Real Sociedad-Athletic, Barcelona-Levante, Atlético-Rayo
    · May 5: Athletic-Barcelona, Olivenza-Atlético

-> Copa de la Reina (8): Athletic, Barcelona, Atlético, Levante, Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano are already qualified for the Copa de la Reina. Zaragoza and Sant Gabriel should be the two remaining teams, though Sporting and Real Sociedad still have some hope.

-> Relegation (2): Way less interesting than last year. Lagunak is already relegated with just 1 point (the worst performance in the championship along with 2005-06 Gijón), and Llanos de Olivenza will be the other relegated team unless they win all 4 remaining games and either Collerense, Valencia, Sevilla or Levante Las Planas lose them.

-> Promotion (2): Albacete, Añorga, Charco del Pino, Girona, Granada have qualified tor the play-offs. With two weeks remaining there are 5 contenders for the 3 remaining spots: Oviedo Moderno, El Olivo, Pozuelo, Torrejón and Murcia.

Here are past Sunday's results and the table:

    Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Sant Gabriel
    1H: 1-0 Manu Lareo 11'
    2H: 2-0 Nekane Díez 57'

    Levante Las Planas 0-1 Barcelona
    1H: -
    2H: 0-1 Olga García 55'

    Levante 1-0 Atlético Madrid
    1H: 1-0 Alicia González 25'
    2H: -

    Espanyol 4-1 Llanos de Olivenza
    1H: 1-0 Brenda Pérez 24'
    2H: 1-1 Carolina Mendes 60' // 2-1 Claudia Montagut 73' // 3-1 Sandra Vilanova 83' // 4-1 Marta Torrejón 90'

    Rayo Vallecano 6-0 Sporting Huelva
    1H: 1-0 Patri Mascaró 10' // 2-0 Pilar García 25' // 3-0 Pilar García 44'
    2H: 4-0 Jade Boho 64' // 5-0 Patri Mascaró 60' // 6-0 Noelia Morales 83'

    Prainsa Zaragoza 7-2 Lagunak

    2H: 4-0 Bárbara Latorre 48' // 5-0 Bárbara Latorre 52' // 6-0 Nuria Mallada 59' // 7-0 Laura Folch 63' // 7-1 Sara Labiano 72' // 7-2 Leire Sanz 84'

    Collerense 4-0 Valencia
    1H: 1-0 Mar Capó 38'
    2H: 2-0 Tania Sánchez 68' // 3-0 Pili Espadas 72' // 4-0 Tania Sánchez 77'

This. This so much. It really pisses me off, Arsenal is one of the few teams to have won the competition, and EVERY YEAR the Spanish team meets them in the early rounds? WTF.

    Up!

Today's the league's final matchday, and Athletic and Barcelona are playing for the title. If Athletic wins or draws it wins its 5th title, while Barcelona needs to win to defend the trophy. After 34' Barcelona wins 0-1 thanks to a free kick by defender Melani Serrano after just 2', so right now they are the champions.

No TV, unfortunately. Great attendance in San Mamés (30,000):

HT: Athletic 1-1 Barcelona, the locals take the lead. Eli Ibarra has scored the equalizer in injury time.

Wow! Now that's a packed house!

Too bad the UEFA WCL hasn't grown enough yet to accept two Spanish teams... When was the last time the league came down to the final matchday??

It's over, Barcelona has won 1-2 (Kenty Robles scored the decisive goal with 15' remaining) and wins the league again! An interesting fact: Athletic led the table through all 29 previous matchdays.

The surprising thing is that according to Wikipedia, Austria has been given a 2nd spot for the 2013-14 CL instead of Iceland. At least it seems this year Spratzern is level with Neulengbach, but still I think Barcelona and Athletic are better teams.

Except for the 2002 (6) and 2009 (5) seasons, the difference between the champion and the runner-up has always been of 3 points or less. In 2003, 2006 and 2008 Athletic, Espanyol and Levante won the league on goal average over Levante, Sevilla and Rayo respectively, and in 2010 and 2011 the top two teams (Rayo and Espanyol both times) played a two-leg final.

Huh. I guess with how successful Rayo had been in recent years and how Barca seemingly ran away with the league last year, I guess I had the impression the league wasn't as close as that... (And Barca wasn't close to first, noticeably in third, for most of the season this year.) Interesting!
