I guess they have such a depth that it should hit them less strongly than what would happen to other teams, shouldn't it?

Yes, they still have Claudia Pina as well if need be but Mariona is a pretty key player to lose for such a long time. But if she can return for the last couple of months when the prizes are up for grabs they might be the stronger for it

Clubs were deducted points after repeated refusal to wear a Spanish fed logo on their kits: 3 for Levante, 3 for Real Sociedad, 6 for Villarreal.

Spanish league table shows Villarreal with -2 points.

They received fines along with 3 other clubs who broke that rule once: Betis, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia.

A joint statement was issued by the most affected clubs. They question the disciplinary action based on a league statute where only non-professional clubs must wear a fed logo.
They argue that the Spanish fed refused to assign professional status to Liga Iberdrola since June 2021. So, Spanish league currently operates as non-professional under the disguise of full-pro.

After the dust settles, the Spanish fed might be forced to admit that Liga Iberdrola continues to run as a semi-pro tournament.

Rhetorical question... What does it say about the Spanish league when the first place team beats the second place team 9-1 ... in an away game ???

Sociedad had a lot of Covid cases on 15 January when the match was postponed. So, that's probably had some worsening effects for their form. But, yeah, nobody's going to beat Barça on their current form...

Well it is a bit of a joke right now. But in the end if the Spanish women win the world cup who cares if Barcelona score a thousand goals a season? Anybody who is not a Barcelona fan obviously.

Barcelona are probably going to dominate for a long time given the money they have behind them, but one would assume the gap will closed a little bit over the coming years. But I fear that it will just become a league for two clubs, which would be a real shame.

Well, they certainly are one of the favorites for the upcoming Women's Euro.

True, though I do believe they themselves also will have problems to win games.
Imo not much has changed in way Spain WNT play since EURO 2017 - some players are more mature but this team overall is still missing fast players like Martens, Hansen or Oshoala.
Barcelona goals against domestic opponents often come from superior play thru the middle, yet it's not enough for UWCL where their wingers play much bigger part.
Let's switch Barca's wingers and runners for a moment with those from Spain WNT and then send Barca to play Lyon, PSG, Bayern or Wolfsburg - it's doubtful they will have the same edge.
In a way Spain WNT and Japan WNT are quite simmilar, the difference is Nadeshiko already started to look past their possession football into new game plan (though not always with good results) while Spain WNT seem to be keen on playing the same way as they did in past years. :cautious:

Yeah but the Spanish team doesn’t have Lieke Martens or Caroline Hansen like in Barca team.

You are right. But Spain are still a pretty good team. I do think that teams know how to play against them now, so it will be tough for them. I have no idea who is going to win the Euros. It should be interesting.

Yes it will! :) Arguably the most high-level and open continental tournament around, since the last World Cup said that 7 out of 8 of the best National Teams in the world are based here. Basically a Mini-World Cup (except USA, that's a bonus! :p).

Copa de la Reina ♛ The last 16 is on this week, round 4 of the cup:

Bilbao sit 5th in the league but were knocked out last night, by a superb long shot by Débora:

    Athletic Club 0 - 1 Sevilla - (Débora García 6')

Tenerife are having a great season, chasing a European place, and today their sixth win in succession puts them into the cup quarter-finals:

    Valencia 0 - 3 Granadilla - (Martín-Prieto 17', Pisco 30'p, Blom 51')

Sociedad, the 2019 cupwinners, are still 2nd in the league and advanced in the cup:

    Villarreal 1 - 2 Real Sociedad - (Sheila 84'p / Eizagirre 3'p, 24')

At Rayo Vallecano, it ended 3-1 for Barça (Jenni Hermoso 2), and the 2nd-division's Alhama lost 3-0 to Real Madrid.

Thursday, the last 3 games in the round:
Betis v Levante (Seville, 15:00 CET)
Espanyol v Madrid CFF (Sant Adrià de Besòs, 17:00)
Sporting Huelva v Atlético Madrid (Huelva, 19:00)

An upset win puts the relegation-threatened Huelva into the cup quarter-final, the only home win of the round, and Atlético Madrid's chance of a trophy is gone. Atlético may still reach the Champions League this season.

    Sporting Huelva 2 - 1 Atlético Madrid - (Keane 37', Ramírez 64' / Latorre 67')

Lower-placed sides in the leagues are always drawn at home in the Copa. Relegated in 2021 to the Segunda División, Espanyol lost this one just before they could force extra time:

    Espanyol 1 - 2 Madrid CFF - (Szymanowski 48' / Geyse 51', Albuquerque 90')

And a convincing away win in this game (10th v 7th) for the Granotes, but the real winners were the reds, with 3 players sent off including Giovana Queiroz:

    Betis 1 - 4 Levante - (Benítez 88' / Giovana 12', Redondo 70', 90+2', Falcón 90+5')

[Reinas del balón] “The players of Rayo Vallecano are on the brink of strike after power outages in their homes. Sources close to the newspaper have informed us that today the players woke up without electricity in the house, due to non-payment of bills. The soccer players can not stand more.”

You really do wonder why Rayo even have a women's team. They clearly do not want one.

The willingness to cut funds and destroy the women's team is something that happens too often in many countries.

The story gets better if you look past gender dichotomies.

Rayo's peak in women's football came at a time when its previous president used Rayo for tax evasion crimes. Rayo's first and only female president was sentenced to 7 years in prison, for hiding 10.8M euros in taxes between 2009 and 2011: presenting club president Teresa Rivero, 1994-2011.
    https://elcierredigital.com/pizarrr...denados-siete-anos-prision-fraude-fiscal.html

Coincidentally, 2009-2011 is when Rayo's women's team played *historic* UEFA matches. A team bankrolled by financial criminals, nonetheless.

After Teresa Rivero's arrest, Rayo was hit with huge debts and gov't fines. The door was left wide open for Rayo's current president, who bought the club for peanuts. Rayo's women's squad wages were unsustainable, to say the least.

This reminds me of *glorious* America de Cali, 1979-1987. A mighty club in both Colombia and Conmebol, as long as drug lords propped up its players' salaries. It all came down real fast in 1995, when the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on club officials, who laundered money for drug cartels.

America de Cali was relegated in 2011 for the first time ever, and has managed to be competitive again. Perhaps Rayo Vallecano needs a similar shakedown to put things in order.

Proudly proud of our team. I think they are a wonderfull bunch of very talented footballers, fearless warriors and brilliant young women.
After doing a lot of very complicated calculations I can say:

    1. We have at least 50/50 chance of winning the trophy.

    2. I´m absolutelly, completely, entirely, fully, perfectly, utterly AND wholly sure this time Germany isn´t going to defeat Spain.

    ¡¡¡¡VAMOS ESPAÑA!!!!
