The goal came on a Weah assist. That #USMNT connection! 🇺🇸Tim Weah finds Weston McKennie to get Juventus back on terms ⚪⚫ pic.twitter.com/S1nX9qnijM— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) October 30, 2024
Came off a Weah cross from the right - just out of frame here. Wes' header looped into the upper left corner of goal. Was a nice play all the Weah around.
Never shoulda taken Weah off for "dry powder" Yildiz! lol. TBF Juve played pretty nice attacking footie but couldn't convert - but their D was shredded by the fast counter a few times. They pushed up so high they were playing 2 in the back for much of the game and Parma was pretty fast off the block when they managed to recover the ball. The second goal started with a keeper mistake/miscommunication and Parma almost repeated it once or twice, but Juve had a few chances that should have been finished - include one by McKennie where it looked like he was stuck between shoot and passing and hit a very bad shot or a very hard pass.
Some questionable subs by the coach IMO... Weah... 1 goal and 1 assist in 59' (MOTM, 8.4 on FOTMOB) so make sure he is the first sub off? Hmm. I guess I understand given how well Yildez has played (and his ceiling)... but two goal contributions in ~60 and the game is still tied and you pull him first? And I don't get the subbing off of Wes at all... he is exactly the player you want crashing the box when you are throwing in cross after cross. He has already scored once in the game that way. But yeah, at least our boys have been pulling their weight recently.
Someone explain to me why Cambiaso is getting the same rating as the two goal scorers? He bordered on awful in the 1st half. If Wes or Weah make even one poor pass that leads to a counter people are always calling them out... I think Cambiaso had three in a half.
had the exact same thought. Several amateur hour passes directly to Parma resulting in chances. Homer rating
I don't know how pro contracts work, but I wonder if ratings have an effect on salary/bonuses? For example, getting a minimum of 15 ratings of 6.0 or higher gets the player an extra $20K at the end of the season... Anyway, if this is the case in contracts, Cambiasso sure lucked out here.
I think Nastra is has the right of it when he called it a homer rating. Basically I think a lot of Italian players get some extra juice local paper ratings... but I was shocked to see both Cambiaso and Locatelli getting high ratings from FOTMOB as well. Generally, I think FOTMOB has the best ratings out there... But was Locatelli a near MOTM yesterday? FOTMOB seemingly loved Cambiaso as well despite some truly awful give-aways in the first half.
I have no clue how Fotmob gives ratings or where they come from, but I assume it's some statistical model that doesn't necessarily register awful giveaways? Edit: apparently there is a site called google that can answer questions: The FotMob player rating is calculated based on more than 300 individual stats per player per match from Opta. A match in the per match ratings is any match the participant has been involved in even if he came on as substitute in the last few minutes.
They do the same thing that some of us do. They overrate their players because the hope*imagination factor outweighs the facts + time factor and younger generations of fans typically lack the historical context by which to rate their current players. Younger people typically assume that current generations of players are better (or potentially better) than their predecessors because they assume that about everything in society. I have been unimpressed with several contemporary Italian players. Chiesa, Cambiasso, etc, etc. You can see why they don’t qualify for World Cups. They’re just not as good as previous generations. Did COVID wreck their soccer program? What gives?
Yes, this is true and I should have made that post an aside rather than a quote. That line of thinking had a little to do with the nature of the data and the way that perception influences subjective data, but more to do with a subjective meta conception of the way that our cultures view players in certain countries and how those biases can be problematic as they do not adjust for new information (such as the fact that Italy is no longer producing players who can be given the benefit of the doubt).
My assumption is Motta is trying not to overwork Mc and Weah - they've both shown themselves susceptible to injury. Mc's has been due to overworking muscles (I forget the term they used)
I was joking, kinda. Yildiz is on his way to being a serious player, I think. It's great that Weah is getting the nod over him, and it will be interesting if Motta's strategy of Weah running hard on the wing, with Yildiz as super-sub goes on for long. But Weah is making the most of his minutes in the meantime and that's all he can do. Esp good for him to pop up on the right and deliver two very score-able crosses, including the one that McK put away.
