I don't want Wes to come to MLS yet, and would love for him to stay overseas; But at this point, with all this back and forth and uncertainty going on, I'm not sure I could blame him for taking the cash bag and coming back to play State-side...
I don't think Milan makes sense. They really need a strong DM to hold things together which isn't Wes.
I mean, the guy has shot himself in the foot several times. His weight, his terrible play in Copa and of course, going to a hookah bar and getting photographed right after the Panama loss. Teams may hesitate to make a big investment in this guy. This plays poorly in high level teams.
If you make a couple hundred grand a year? Sure. When you make a couple of million? Cost of living is a poor person issue…not yours.

🚨⚫️⚪️ Juventus and Wojciech Szczesny have now reached mutual agreement to terminate the contract with immediate effect.Paperwork being prepared and checked; if all good, Szczesny leaves Juventus getting an important pay-out fee.🇵🇱 Szczesny will be available as free agent. pic.twitter.com/f1OGarTu9E— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 13, 2024 Szczesny is a no-brainer buyout because his salary was so massive, but I wouldn't be surprised if Arthur gets a buyout before the end of the market. IDK if players like Wes or Kostic or Rugani rise to the level of a buyout, but it's at least on the table?
Unless players are married, esp. to local girls, and therefore looking to settle a bit they tend to live halfway between the city's bright lights and the training grounds, which tend to be located in the suburbs or even exurbs. Property is a lot cheaper in those locations.
Very true, but you're talking about an ordinary single guy, not a single pro athlete. They're pretty single-minded guys, for whom the considerations are always $$$, level of play (UEFA CL or EL or Conference ball), PT, fit with the club/coach, MNT place impact. Florence being way, way nicer than Cincinnati enters the equation if a guy has a better half who digs her heels in on the matter.
That right there. Arthur has reportedly garnered interest from Fiorentina again, they're trying to work on something. Rugani just renewed a little while back, they won't buy him out. As for McKennie. I don't think they'd do that either. I think they'll wait a little longer to see whether they might actually use him this season. The next couple weeks will determine it.
Two words for you: Knightsbridge. that is, objectively, one of the most expensive areas in the world as it is one of the prime washing machines for Russian money, so... yeah, it's going to cost a bit. The average property price in this neighborhood is £4,328,333, approximately $5.4 million.
They're still supposedly trying to get $ for Wes. They'll just drop the transfer fee ask before they'd think about buying him out, I'd imagine.
The ability for Wes to get from Florence to Rome/Amalfi Coast/Milan/Nice/Monte Carlo/Monaco/Zermatt/Geneva/Zurich/Barcelona/Costa Bravo/Venice etc. is an easy story for a single American with a pro salary living in Italy. Cincinnati is a great place for a family man .... but he is not there yet. I just don't see why given the competition, the pay, the lifestyle etc. that he comes home yet. Wes will never be destitute ... actually if he has a better half that wants to be back in the states and start a family - Cincy would be awesome. Till then - IMHO - Fiorentina would be a great place to be.
Maybe he’s worried about that modest $2,000,000 house in Florence that would cost $6,000,000 in London.
Part of me hopes he stays and they have to beg him to play again when their "technical" players can only move the ball side to side.
https://www.violanews.com/esclusive/vn-mckennie-si-allontana-lamericano-vuole-giocare-la-champions/ According to Nico Schira, Weston has turned down Fiorentina because he desires to play in the Champions League. Schira theorizes that maybe he says yes in the closing days of the window, but for now, the negotiations are over.
Also, the MLS window closes tonight. Greg O'Keefe reported in the "Wes to Miami" move, but claims that talks didn't get beyond the early stages because Weston wants to stay in Europe thumbsup. The report suggests that Weston is indeed playing chicken with Juve, hoping to get larger personal terms from his next club in exchange for a lower or no transfer fee.
Looks like Wes has another year of salary from Juventus and is only interested in leaving if it is for a good team (CL) and an improved salary. ...and if he doesn't get that, he'll get paid and see how things work out in 24-25. He's got a contract, so... good for him.
After the way they treated him last year and then he proved himself I kind of like how he's treating them now.
Honestly, he's kinda just taking notes from other guys at the club. The only player getting more ire than Weston from Italian fans is Chiesa, who is more-or-less doing the same thing Weston is: looking for a VERY specific set of criteria in a landing spot, and rejecting anything that doesn't meet it because he's under contract for another year.
Yup...also knowing that the second Juve get their ass handed to them by Inter and/or Milan... the clubs going to look pretty stupid having a world class attacker and one of their best midfielders from last year just riding pine or not even dressing.
good for Wes (if he sticks to his position and wants a good club with CL possibilities): 1. he is in a position of leverage over Juve (they have to pay him and as time marches on his value to Juve depreciates) ... 2. he is not old. His sell by date is well into the future ... 3. he can always come back to the MLS and make a good chunk of change. 4. he is not getting injured 5. seems that he is learning from other players and trades that you don't discount your own value willy-nilly. 6. his bank account continues to increase ... 7. he still wants to stay in Europe where the competition is fierce. hey Juve - tick tock tick tock ... other option is that Juve has so much money they don't care .... but if they have so much money why are they being so demanding with Wes and Chiesa and others? .... seems to me that they DON'T have a ton of money to work with and they are trying to squeeze players that were good loyal soldiers for them. This can't be good PR with them re: other players - who observe how Wes did last year and what the result appears to be ... who also observe what has transpired with Chiesa.
‼️An intermediary has approached Weston McKennie for Galatasaray, but the midfielder has it turned down. He is not interested despite he is not in Juventus’ plans.@NicoSchira | #Juventus— Bianconeri Zone (@BianconeriZone) August 14, 2024
Juve isn’t poor by any stretch of the imagination. They’re getting a lot between the CL, WCC and new sponsors. John Elkann’s goal is to lower the wage base, he got tired of paying for underperforming players. If you look at all their new signings, their pay is much lower than the Szeczesny, Chiesa, Alex Sandro, Rabiot types. If EXOR wants, they can inject money into the club at any time, Agnelli used to do it. Elkann (his cousin) is taking a different approach. He wants Juve to be self sustaining. He is far more business oriented than Andrea Agnelli was with the club. As for Wes, his opportunities are dwindling, sure he could sit out a season and collect a paycheck, but is that wise not playing for 10 months? Juve could pull a Tek and terminate his contract, but how many suitors playing in the CL does he have? This transfer window has shown how clubs aren’t spending like they were. There are bigger name players that haven’t signed to a team yet.
