Look at Rabiot, he still hasn't signed with a team. A lot of people will say that he's a bigger name than McKennie and he hasn't received a ton of offers, especially at the salary he was demanding. Just because someone is free to sign elsewhere doesn't mean they'll get what they're looking for, or have the clubs coming knocking. Same thing happened with Dybala, demanded a higher wage, Juve said no thanks, people thought he had tons of offers and it turned out the only serious offer was from Roma, he left for Roma and wound up signing for less than he was making at Juve.
Right but if Juve is low balling him now, some reports were he’d have to take a pay cut, he likely won’t do worse than that on the open market as a free agent, And he keeps his higher pay this year.
I think the market has reset and a lot of the players haven't realized it yet. The financial record keeping side has made it tougher for rich clubs and COVID and TV deals for some leagues have dealt blow to poorer clubs. Other clubs are taking advantage of that and not offering what they did even last year.
'Member when Gooch accepted a one-year extension with Milan for no salary at all? Times have changed.
Yeah, if Wes hadn't played a single league game in an entire season on a side that was obviously punching above his weight (no Ibra - or Ranch Dressing - pun intended), maybe he'd sign a free extension too... Times haven't changed at all in this regard. But ability to recall details perhaps have...
I remember Gooch didn’t even have a bio on Milan’s website, if you clicked his picture it went directly to the online store.
I remember when he first signed for Milan. That day I went to their website and the announcement was so bleh, something like, "he wanted to come here and he was free so, why not?". I thought it was a strange announcement and I guess got a reaction as when I looked again later that day, or next, it was gone.
‼️McKennie is of interest to Fiorentina. The obstacles include his demand for a 5mln€ wage and whether he would be interested in joining Fiorentina, as the player is hoping for offers from a club competing in the Champions League.@Gazzetta_it | #Juventus pic.twitter.com/XjQeIJ3jLP— Bianconeri Zone (@BianconeriZone) August 11, 2024
This is silly. He’s not making a multi million dollar decision based on the skyline and architecture. It’s not like the Manchester clubs and Liverpool can’t compete with Chelsea and Arsenal for players. Why do people post this kind of thing all the time? Makes no sense.
❗️Premier League club Everton have set their sights on Weston McKennie, who is leaving Juventus. (@tuttosport) pic.twitter.com/KpUK6pG6Bk— JuveFC (@juvefcdotcom) August 12, 2024
I can't tell if Everton being allegedly set to start the season with PSR reductions makes this rumor more or less likely...
Think the Everton rumors are older but John Textor is looking to buy Everton and sell his shares in Palace so if true I could see why the rumors popped up again
I don’t know if housing and any other living expenses are included in the compensation for these deals. Having to suddenly move from Torino to London, for example, would eat up quite a lot of extra pay. Liverpool would be a lot more comparable in cost of living terms.
Help me out here. @bct81 asked if it were between Cincinnati or Florence, which one would he choose, but then you chimed in with Manchester/Liverpool vs the london clubs. Porque? That said, yeah, getting a chance to toil in MLS/Cincinnati, and to get a chance to play in some random cashgrab has got to be really tempting for McKennie.
I can't track down the origin, but a bunch of Juve fan blogs are pushing the idea that Weston will go to Inter Miami for $14m. This is being translated into rumors of a firm offer vis-a-vis a game of social media telephone. Inter Miami are, like, the only MLS club that couldn't sign Wes with the passage of the new roster rules. Maybe he comes to MLS, but it won't be at Inter Miami.
Where will the better competition be? How much money will he net over time? Eventually he will come for good to MLS - no need to return now … for now Florence is a great place for him. you are seriously questioning why I think Florence is a better place for a young American (w/o kids) to live than Cincy? (no slight to Cincy - but having grown up abroad - it is a no brainer to me.)
There are rumors that Cincy was willing to offer Wes an outrageous deal so maybe they're confusing MLS teams?
apropos of nothing, Florence is a weird city. Its location is great, and it's beautiful, but it's also a little like living in a giant museum, esp if your on the "wrong" side of the Arno. Like, you're likely to turn a corner in to a throng of people at all times of the day, any day of the week. Of course, if you're in a little terraced sun-kissed villa on the hills overlooking town with a sports car next to the pool and grape vines ripening below the bedroom window... well, that's probably tolerable.
Forza Juventus on X: "❗Weston McKennie has been offered to Milan by Juventus. [@FabDellaValle - @Gazzetta_it] #Juventus https://t.co/Ay9RaTjsPe" / X Not sure Milan really has a need for McKennie, but this would certainly allow me to focus my Serie A game watching.
Della Valle is pretty reputable too. Juve is trying to make a couple deals with Milan, for one of their defenders and word is for midfielder Saelemaekers (who played under Motta at Bologna). This could be an offer to replace him. A team in the CL, Americans already on the team, American owners. They might want to make it work salary wise. Could be a good move for him.
I thought Bologna was going to buy the Belgian kid... Guess not. 'Cause Motta left Bologna was not up for it or Saelemaekers didn't want to go since Motta was out?
