Juve FC reporting Florence deal looking unlikely. (I wonder if the Juventus strategy of announcing Wes was surplus was a way to try to force a move, but they really are fine with him staying. They don't seem anxious to lower his fee enough to get a deal done. We will know if he's not loaned out by Sept, I guess. I'm starting to suspect they are fine having him on the bench unless they can get pretty decent $) https://www.juvefc.com/fiorentina-cool-their-interest-in-unwanted-juventus-star/
Or its,"Stop asking us for severance and accept a deal at lower wages unless you want to take a year and eat yourself out of a career."
JuveFC have also been one of the most pessimistic voices throughout this ordeal. They're a publication that tries to get clicks from the hardest of hardcore Juve fans. Juve overpaid Weston and is now punishing him for their mistake, and JuveFC's job is to spin that reality into something that makes the club look good. When you re-frame the situation to be from Weston's perspective, it's absurd: imagine your employer telling you to find another job because they pay you too high a salary... are you just gonna be like "welp, sure, that's one of those honest mistakes boss" or are you going to: a) justify your worth to the company (what Wes spent last season doing) and b) demand to be paid what you're owed in accordance with the contract you both signed? This is why they describe the outcome of the Villa transfer as "Wes said no" not "Juve wouldn't compensate Wes in order to compensate for the fact that he will have to take a paycut or leave money he's owed on the table". Meanwhile... Alfredo Pudella says that the deal is still on and Fiorintina are talking to Weston: #McKennie resta un profilo apprezzato dalla #Fiorentina. Dipende solo da lui: la #Juventus ha dato apertura https://t.co/gKoj7icOHC— Alfredo Pedullà (@AlfredoPedulla) July 30, 2024 Tuttosport suggest that the deal is contingent on Fiorintina selling Amrabat, but the issue is that Amrabat is in the same position Wes is: last year of his contract, PL aspirations, and his transfer value gets lower with each passing day so no one is in a rush to sign him. CalcioMercate suggest that Wes and Amrabat will do a swap deal... I don't really understand what Juve gets out of that, but sure, it's a thing that could happen.
He could also wait a year and get a huge bag from a Euro team. I think he's at the point in his development that waiting a year isn't the end of the world for his career. If he waits a year and signs somewhere in Germany for like €3m / year net, he's come out ahead financially and the only potential sacrifice is that he won't necessarily be playing Champions League ball.
You keep throwing this out. So you must think this a lateral move for players from Juventus who lead the team in assists. Or am I missing something in why you keep bringing up this path for a starting Juve player?
with interest from villa, Everton and Florence, come January he’s rolling a big bag no matter where he decides to wander.
Some of the stats that matter more than assists in Europe: 1. Number of UK passports in your name and possession 2. Number of exotic accent marks in your name 3. Number of times you've been linked with Chelsea 4. Number of different ways your name can end with -inho 5. How many shirts you can sell in America
Last year I don’t remember hearing complaints from Juve or their fans that they were paying too much for him/he isn’t worth what we’re paying for him. Now that he’s had his best season for them he’s suddenly a burden?
I think he might be talking specifically the JuveFc website, which has for sure been the most negative "press" on Wes since Juve announced that Motta wanted to let him go.
Bingo Ringo - the problem Juve has is their ambitions are very, very high. If Wes is not sold and Motta gets them firing on all cylinders out the gate, maybe Wes has a relaxing fall, but more likely, simply because Juve wants to win it all and that ain't easy, someone will look bad/get hurt and Wes will get a chance or 3. From McKennie's perspective, there is little harm in sitting on Juve's bench waiting for his shot for 4 months. I more and more think Juve's math is get good money for Wes, or keep him in the trunk as a spare. We'll know I'm wrong if they can't/don't sell and decide to loan. But if they hold out for 17 mill or whatever, don't sell and then don't loan, they were not a serious as they pretended.
I know it's a joke, but the last time that happened was in 2011 under Luigi Delneri. Wes won't be waiting behind a young Miretti, Fagioli, Locatelli, and Injury prone Pogba. The competition will likely be those players plus Douglas Luiz, Khephren Thuram, and most likely Teun Koopmeiners. I just don't want to see Wes waste a year in his prime, coming off a 10 assist year to boot.
