For someone who is being smartly advertised as not good enough for a team that finished 35 points back in a league that is…let’s face it…is nowhere near as good as it used to be?
Further to Soule - just saw a report that Juve is insisting on 30 mill + 10 mill sell ons and Roma are like "no, no, no..." so, we shall see. Folks insisting it's not Juve it's Wes, yet Chiesa trains alone, Soule is not sold, Wes is not sold... Maybe, just maybe... All 3 will get deals (maybe Chiesa talks to Motta and stays) but not till after a lot of horse trading.
lol, Chiesa just returned to training TODAY, he got married on Saturday. He was expected to join with the first team after Juve's trip to Germany ends this Friday. As for Soule, Juve has been asking no less than €35 million and it's been reported that for weeks now. Roma came through and offered €20 million, then €25 million and now their latest offer is €28 million. It's nice when a director sticks to his guns and doesn't let other teams lowball him for certain players. God knows other clubs in Italy do it to Juve all the time. The Soule saga will most likely be resolved by this weekend. The other two, who knows. It's been pretty quiet on the McKennie front, and he's still hasn't returned to training yet either.
He's still on FIFA mandated vacay, but the reports I've seen said that he and Szczesny were given extra vacation to figure out their club situations and won't meet the rest of the squad in Germany. I think Kostic is also getting left in Turin?
Exactly - Wes is still not back, it's not even August, which is why any "Wes has to take a salary cut, no one is interested" takes are just silly at this point. Juve is playing hardball with transfers, which is what they should do if they can get away with it, but the idea that because Wes (or Chiesa or any other Juve player on the block) have not closed a deal yet they are "damaged goods" is just not how silly season works. Esp when Juve have decided, for some odd reason, to go aggressively public that certain players in the last year of their contract - Wes, Chiesa in this case - are not in Motta's plans. Of course teams are going to negotiate against that. Inter, for instance, will likely track Chiesa and if he doesn't move, swoop in 2025. Wes will meet a similar fate.
Typo…25 points back. To which you’re probably gonna “but ackshually” it was only 23 points back. The point is…Juventus is saying to the market that he isn’t good enough to play a part on a team that will actually compete for a serie A title….and he’s of so little value to us that we could keep him for an incremental pittance…we’re not going to. But by the way…we want $20 million for this turd.
Kostic is technically hurt, but he's pretty much surplus materials at this point. He returned late last week. Juve returns from Germany either late Friday night or Saturday, then word is that they have Sunday off and back to training at Continassa on Monday. There are still others that haven't returned from training yet either, players who were in Copa America specifically (except Weah who returned already and travelled to Germany with the team).
Yeah, I'd over-inflate a players price as well, especially if he was one of the best players on the team last season, if I no longer wanted them on the team and wanted to get something for them. Ask for x, take a lower amount. If you set the price too low you could miss out on getting some nice money for him.
I'm not sure anyone is saying that players that haven't moved yet are damaged goods, still more than a month to go in the transfer window. Plenty of time for players to find a team. Inter can't afford Chiesa, the club is €300 million in debt already and its new owner is looking to minimize costs for now.
Lol. You're "not sure" but in this thread we have folks saying Wes is fat, out of shape, will have to take a pay cut. How come you don't read the thread you post in?
Why don't you have a go at those posters than? Instead you are continually going at the Juve fans for their transfer tactics. Most of which support the USMNT. Neither @Dante ,@AGomes , or I have called him fat or out of shape. We have pointed towards precedence of similar or better players recently who thought they were going to get more money by leaving Juventus on a free and did not. Rabiot ended up staying at Juve for the same salary he had before, while also coming off a career year (11g/5a). Dybala actually had to take a paycut and joined a Europa League team.
You're absolutely right, the team hasn't been nearly as good as it used to be. Plagued by players like Arthur, Bernadeschi, Ramsey, Rabiot, Bentancur, De Sciglio, Kean, Kulusevski, etc. Some of them getting over 100 caps and even wearing the captains arm-band shows why there was such a huge drop-off after the historic 9 championships in a row.
I think he can sign a pre-contract in January too. If a team wants him in Jan, they might need to pay a small fee, but if they're willing to wait, I believe that they can just sign him in Jan, contract starting in summer *(June/July) and they don't even need to negotiate with Juventus.
Like, I literally have been responding to those fans - just read the thread. Have I quote-posted Dante once on this until now? I get you guys are Juve fans as well as USMNT fans, which is great and can also be frustrating, but there is also a transfer reality, and anyone who has paid attention to silly season more than 10 minutes knows how it works. Wes' transfer is likely to be end of August because he's out of contract soon, Juve are still trying to get a decent transfer fee for him even tho they've outright stated they don't want to keep him and he's trying to get a pay raise. It's not a big deal. But it's weird to pretend like the "he needs to take a pay cut" posts don't exist or that my explanation of the situation is not accurate. Juve said what they said. No one made them. Plenty of clubs pretend they want to keep a player "unless a reasonable offer is made" or whatever. It's always harder to offload a player at a good price when you've told the world you don't want them and they will be free next year. It will be true for Chiesa too. Lot's of clubs do it, but it's silly to pretend it helps the transfer fee.
you're a strange bird. who's called him damaged goods? A couple people on a BigSoccer thread?? Well that's it then, it's clear he'll be lucky to play in the USL at this point. I think you like to argue for the sake of it.
Why are you selling this car? Because it sucks and I can’t afford if. Then why are you high blue book? Because it’s totally awesome and I don’t really want to get rid of it. But you just said it sucks and you can’t afford it. That was before you expressed interest And just to be clear: this isn’t a critique specific to Juve. It’s a criticism of European clubs that repeatedly do this shit to players.
Or, I see that you live in a sprawling metropolitan but the vehicle you are selling is a lifted F-350 super duty. Maybe I don't want it anymore because it isn't the right vehicle for what I need, but it could be exactly what you need!
Fair enough, I don't disagree that the tactic doesn't tend to give the highest return for a player sale and it wouldn't be the way I handled it. We will just disagree about the chance of Wes not getting more money with his next contract. I'm not saying he won't, just that it isn't a guarantee. 5m gross isn't nothing, and that's just to basically continue earning what he makes now. This prospective club will likely be receiving a player without playing any significant minutes for the past year.
What grinds my gears is the dismissive tone of the Italian press towards Weston. For example: https://www.diretta.it/news/calcio-...i-juventini-in-scadenza-tra-un-anno/d8jD52Wj/ "Thiago Motta's Juventus is taking shape, in a gradual yet decisive way. There are some players for whom the Italo-Brazilian coach has no room, and those are the ones who were not pressured to renewing their contracts, which are going to end in less than a year. However, among them there are exceptions that confirm the rule, or rather the trend. "Some of them are players who were important for the team in their last year, if we consider the cases of Wojciech Szczesny, Federico Chiesa, or Danilo. Others, like Weston McKennie, couldn't find the consistency to become indispensable and able to make a difference. Still, the cases of the American and the Pole are somewhat similar. "For Szczesny and McKennie, it was obvious the only solution is to leave. The first one takes a large salary (about six million Euros) and with the arrival of Michele di Gregorio to the keeper spot, he's been practically invited to leave. For now, the Polish keeper doesn't seem to have found a club yet where he can get a good contract, considering he's already 34. The options in Saudi Arabia seem viable, while his purported link to Monza less so. "In what respects the North American midfielder, on the other hand, it's about being redundant in every sense. After failing to include him in the negotiation for Douglas Luiz as the technical half [the press reported Villa wanted a speedster and a technical player for Luiz, plus money. Juve offered Iling-Junior as the speedster, McKennie as the technical], Cristiano Giuntoli needs to find a club that can get some money into the Old Lady's coffers. Both were removed from the list of those called to the retreat, along with the ailing Milik and Kostic."
The funny thing is, I think we basically agree, you just have slight more black & white colored glasses than I. The main part of the equation I've been calling out is that Juve's 20 mill ask may well be as big a drag on negotiations as Wes' salary ask (and most probably, it's really the gross of the 2. Lessen any number in a equation, he becomes more attractive.) My main disagreement are with those who are saying that the fact he doesn't have a deal at this point is reflective on his value and he's got to take a wage hit, or is seen as a poor player etc. I just think, given the facts of his transfer timing and Juve's statements, he'll be a late summer deal. I think it's be great if Juve got 20 mill cash for him and he doubled his salary, I just don't think either of those things happen to a guy in his situation.
Lol. We are literally both posting on a Big Soccer thread and you think it's odd that I'm engaging opinions expressed in that Big Soccer thread? ... Yeah, sure, I'm a "strange bird" having a soccer discussion about a player on his thread in a soccer forum... Ok. Got it. Whatevs.
