Yeah I get he wasn’t shredded but he was a crazy good athlete. His body, whatever it “looked” like, was the body of an insane athlete.

Yeah, there are some pretty narrow definitions of 'athletic' being relied on in this thread. It's not all about whether you look like a Men's Health cover model.

I'd be quite happy if I looked as good as McKennie. I also would think, if I looked like him, I wouldn't be able to play in any position for 90 minutes. Much less at the level of the sport he's at. But, yet, he's shown over and over and over that he's fine doing so. He's more than proven himself. Let the man be if he feels like "a few extra pounds" helps him do his thing with the acuity he does it with.

No sir charles was called "the round mound of rebound" and "the jumping safe" while in college. He actually slimmed down in the NBA. Barkley regularly played at 300 lbs in college at 6' 5"

I'm pretty confident that Babe Ruth, if he played soccer, wouldn't have been the Sultan of anything and so we'd never talk about him. Over on BigBaseball, though...

It is kinda funny how we, and I include myself, easily trust our eyes and aesthetics over actual metrics. Sure, McKennie can run 90 minutes with the best athletes in the world, but I don't see strongly delineated abductors in that beach shot. Dude is fat and slow! Mad Ave has messed up all our minds.

He could score regularly from the halfway line and deeper. Whitey Herzog said he was like a pickup truck, could eat anything and never got injured while some modern players he had (back in the 70's) were like Ferrari's and any minor pothole would leave them injured for months.

I’m very tempted to change the thread title to juicy bootay of Juve- but it feels a little…unwise.

On that tweet up top... I do believe later on in the same interview he said this:

“The things I’ve learned here are definitely tactical. Playing in Germany it was more back and forth, the same in England, lots of running, but here it is very tactical, all about the position. That is something I needed to improve in my game instead of running around like a headless chicken and doing things I could’ve done easier.”

He's a good soldier, a real team guy. Plays in his unpreferred position for the betterment of the team. Even Chiellini, who is preparing for the MLS Cup Final with LA FC, spoke highly of him this week.

As for Chuck, he was lean(er) in his Philadelphia days. Probably after he was told by Dr J flat out that he was fat (i remember Chuck saying this when speaking of Zion Williamson). But by his Pheonix days, Chuck let himself go.

For those who follow Serie A closely, how's McKennie in comparison/rankings with other midfielders in the league? How's he holding up?

I couldn’t call myself an expert in Serie A, but he’s definitely been one of the better players for Juventus this season, in my humble opinion.

He’d be an instant upgrade at Milan. I know that much.

A lot of this is masked on relative strength of the team. In other words, maybe a player like Ricci from across town at Torino doesn't look as good because Torino aren't as good (hope this makes sense). Wes is one of the guys we can count on. In my 11 for sure. I think when he looks back on his career he will consider himself a Juve player before a Schalke player. Too bad we won't win the league this season but whatever.
