OK, here's the situation: Following today's 0-1 loss at home to Charlton, Tottenham are positioned squarely in the drop zone. Would you like to see them relegated for the sheer thrill of laughing at them hysterically or would you rather they stay up for us to pummel and laugh at? Personally, I'm mixed, because it would make for some good laughs at the expense of lousy half of North London, but, when I would look at the fixture list and not see the North London Derby on there, something just wouldn't seem right. Thoughts?
What are Scum finances like? Could the drop put em out of business; Big club costs, lots of players on large salaries and no EPL cash to pay em? Guess their fans would have to become Gooners; make a change from losing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol Looks possible there could be 2 new 1st division clubs wearing white shirts next season?
Relegation. And I site the following the reasons * Even though they have not beaten us in a long time, we still have very hard fought games with them, especially at WHL where we draw a lot. Without this derby, we'd have an easier game in theory from a promoted side. * I wouldn't mind the hard fought derby matches if they were at least able to beat our rivals and help us out but they can't even do that. They have a poor record against Man Utd and Chelsea, and only a fair record v. Liverpool. * Think how much you can rub the scum supporters noses in it? That alone is worth it. So what we don't have a big derby match each year with them? We can replace them with Chelsea till they come back up.
I actually enjoy the derby and would actually in a way enjoy it more if Tottenham were a top side and more were genuinely at stake, but as its not but all they can do is root for us to lose to anyone and pretend somehow that's a victory for them, let em go down. Wouldn't it be delightful to be drawn the FA Cup against Tottenham of NATIONWIDE, no different from Watford or Crystal Palace or Leyton Orient. No offence to the recent S***s supporting visitors who've actually been all right-but you know you wake up in cold sweats from the dream of this match with roles reversed-OK maybe not but you'd LOVE it if we were in that predicament. It would be SOME match too I figure and if S***s played with the intensity they'd show should that day come or even the intensity they display against us now, Pookspur and comme wouldn't be losing sleep about relegation anyway. They might actually be...kinda good...
I vote for relegation - at least for a year or two. Think of the opportunities: "Who've you got next week? Burnley? That could be tricky! A six-pointer! We play them on the 24th April - four games from the end of the season. No! We couldn't could we? That would be too much to ask for!
I just don't see them getting dropped. They couldn't possibly have as bad a second half of the season as they did the first. It's wishful thinking so I think the London derby will still be intact next year. I still see Leicester, Wolverhampton and someone else hittin' Division 1.
Really? That's my birthday! I wonder what I should ask for this year.... In all honesty I don't really care either way, except for the fact that I don't want to see Keller playing Div. 1.
I have the same feelings comedians do when a president leaves office, "There goes a source of great comedic material." On the other hand, playing us is their biggest game of the season, twice. I don't need that sort of intensity in an opponent.
I suppose we at the Bridge are a bit optimistic these days, but I prefer to think about the teams that I would want to see in the EPL next year. Obviously, I would want a london club to come up. QPR would be nice. I am sure if Spurs go down then they will sell off their players like keller and anderton due to their financial situation.
I have to say that their supporters, including people who go to every home game, are getting very nervous. Add the fact that Kanoute has decided to play for Mali in the African Nations Cup and Robbie Keane is a possible target for ManU then things start to get very interesting don't they?
We don't beat them twice each year. We draw and win and get 4 points. That's my point. We barely drew at WHL last year. Its not an easy away game. I'd prefer we get someone easier who we can get 6 points off of for a year or two till they come back up, much weaker than when they left.
Now y'all are just being mean...... The Yanks amongst you Gooners should root for Spurs to stay up for sake of Keller. The Brit Gooners should root for Spurs so you can kick their asses again next year.
WTF would (or in your opinion - should) I care about Keller? I'm offended by people that believe the fate of national team players is higher than those of my club! For all I care, Friedel, Keller, Howard, Reyna, etc can get relegated! I actually hope that Howard's team gets relegated...That would be a laugh... Yes I want Sp*rs to go down to the Conference if not lower...
I so wish they would get relegated. It would be so funny in the pub it's untrue. We've won the championship at White Hart Lane, Anfield and Old Trafford, this would be a good way to start off a sequence of relegations!
I'd rather they go down for the above reasons. Much better to face Norwich or West Brom than Spurs. Ideally, derbies should be kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, if you consider any match with a London rival a derby, then Arsenal have more than their share: Spurs, Chelsea, Charlton, Fulham, and until recently, West Ham. I'm sure it didn't hurt ManU to have City out of the EPL for a number of years. I know there are some other clubs near Manchester, but I doubt their matches with ManU have quite the same intensity. And speaking of ManU, wasn't it Spurs who failed to beat them in the last match of the 1999 season, thus costing Arsenal the title? That's reason enough to want them to go down.
the assertion that spurs would be 'kinda good' if we played consistently with the intensity that we bring to the derby is accurate. in fact, over the last 4 or 5 years, we have played with that kind of intensity, and looked quite good - about half the time. we've not acquired midtable status by being average, but by being hugely inconsistant. actually, it's not THAT different this year. the only difference is that we're not getting results even when we DO play well. it is generally considered that we well outplayed charlton the other day. we showed well against man u, and you guys, as well. i don't know how many times we've looked the better side this season, yet come away with nothing. ok, every club has a few of those, but we've had more than our share, and combine that with our traditional lacklustre performances every other week and, well, we are where we are. if we continue to put forth efforts like we did against charlton, the odds of us staying in the drop zone are very remote. and, in all candor, i suspect that our position in the table will provide greater impetus for such efforts than would our usual 8th or 9th this time of year. regardless, enjoy your musings with regard to our misfortunes. we'll see you at the lane.
The only times you folks have looked the better club to me were against Wolves, Everton, Bolton and maybe Man City. Even the win over Leicester, Spurz looked like pure ca-ca. Just fine on the attack, I'll grant, but the midfield giveaways were so embarrassing even I was shocked. And of course, Spurz didn't even show up at Fulham. Everyone looked asleep. Having said that, I am certain that you'll avoid relegation pretty easily. Myself, I couldn't care less either way, but I suspect once your front office settles down and stops screwing up, things will get much better. I suspect you'll wind up around 13th in the table. Here's to taking another four points from you next year.
