I have to write a 2000 word feature article for my college assessment and I am looking for any books that cover the topic of South American players moving to 'wealthy' Europe due to the finacial muscle in this part of the world and how this is affecting the game in nations like Argentina, Brasil, Chile etc where often supporters in these countries dont get to see these young talented players playing the game.

And how this is due to the lack of money in the South American leagues and the poverty in this part of the world.

Are there any books out their that cover this topic I have searched on amazon but cant seem to find anything dealing with this.

    Can anyone recommend anything?

Also are there any good articles or case studys about this online?

Is this for a MA or PHD program or an undergrad?

I haven't read anything detailing this issue, and I'd think that it isn't really positioned as a problem very often when you consider that it is beneficial for the player economically and in terms of talent development, and it also benefits the local soccer leagues by bringing money into it.

I think that the only leagues that really see their best talent leap over to Europe to such an extent that it hurts the quality of the league is Argentina and Brazil...but despite what you want to say about poverty in those countries the soccer clubs are quite wealthy (I would hesitate to say that its an exchange of exploitation).

Also, if the issues were entirely economic from the perspectives of the players then you would see more young talent taking off to the middle east and the MLS than you currently do.

Maybe a better example would be the growth of the Mexican Domestic Leagues in relation to South America. I don'tknow...

anyways, if you're looking into bringing soccer into your letter of itnerest or intent think about soccer and transnationalism. There's a lot of literature out there on the formation of international ties between barras bravas (fierce fanclubs), or the importance of soccer for diasporic communities. Just some ideas.
