I am familiar with the Brazilan and Argentine league so I know which clubs are good and have history. I don't know much abou other leagues. What are the othere big clubs and/or succesful clubs in South America. Thanks
Colombia: America de Cali, Deportivo Cali are usually on top. Venezuela: Maracibo is the only one I know of Uruguay: Nacional and Penarol are high class (its like Boca x River Uruguay version) Bolivia: The strongest and Bolivar are the strongest(BTW the team name is "the strongest", just in case you were confused) Peru: Alianza Lima is the one with the best history but seem to be struggling of late in south american competition. Chile: Universidad Catolica and Colo Colo are the favorites and both hate each other. Paraguay: Olimpia is the best (last years Copa libertadores champion) Ecuador: Barcelona and Emelec are usually strong, but not in Libertadores, etc. If I missed one excuse me I'm central American and thats the ones that appeal to me but if you want you could politely name them if you wish, thank you. P.S. Just so you start to get to know them , In Honduras Olimpia is the best!!!!
Like Ronaldinho said, in Colombia America de Cali is one of the most succesful clubs in the country, been to 3 or 4 Libertadores finals, never has won one tho. Deportivo Cali (btw they are rival clubs) is also one of the strong teams in the local league, were finalist in 99 for Libertadores. Atletico Nacional de Medellin is probably one of the biggest, mostly cause they are the "King of cups" in Colombia, only Colombian team to have won the Libertadores back in '89 thanks to Rene Higuita (GK). D. Independiente Medellin, has won the fewer domestic cups of the ones mentioned, but its a strong team none the less, Semifanilist in this years Libertadores along with America de Cali. The "embajadores," (embassadors) Millonarios from Bogota, were big during the golden era of soccer in Colombia, but lately they have dropped behind the 4 aforementioned. Junior, Once Caldas, I. Santa Fe, have also had their spells of good football.
Oh my good im having a heart attack. Caracas FC 6x champion in 19 years Maracaibo- nothing they are a new team Venezuela - its Estudiantes de Merida and Caracas thats it.
Venezuela has have some good soccer teams but they are not around anymore (I'm not going to say why to not make this too long) Venezuelan big teams (history): - Caracas FC (6 times champions) - Tachira FC (5 times champions) - Estudiantes de Merida - Union Atletico Maracaibo (young team, growing very fast, biggest stadium in Venezuela) Venezuelan great teams that are not around: - Minerven (I think made it to Copa L. quarterfinals, and had the leading scorer) - Deportivo Galicia and Deportivo Italia - And many others.
fo peru you have universitario-financial crisis all the time alianza - eternal losers 17 years without a championship sporting cristal-peru most stable team both sporting and universitaio have made the libertadores final then you have sport boys cienciano of cuzco alianza atletico of sullana and thats about it
You mentioned Sport Boys for me. Tell the truth. You did forget to mention that they are from Callao.
you are right i knew trhat if i didnt you would mention them instead so i bet you to it mind you the only good thing sport boys have going for them is calavera orejuela
Nope. Bolivar is very much the best club in Bolivia since '85 but Strongest is at the same level as Wilstermann, Oriente Petrolero and Blooming. If you mean which is the best club this year The Strongest has the leg up but it's still very much a toss up. Bolivar currently sucks a lot but they've too much talent to stay that way.
well Cali was on top for a while, but now lost it to U. Magdalena, althought there has been like 5 leader changes in the past week or so.
Yeah, well I was mainly talking about America de Cali. Ever since De La Pava left its all criticism, ties and losses for the team. Castro is not Bianchi.
Barcelona from Ecuador has been in the Copa Libertadores final twice (1990-1998), and Emelec has not missed Copa Libertadores since 1998. You might say that Barcelona and Emelec are not that strong, but we are not that weak either.
welcome here bartender! among 10 teams league that could not be too difficult!? ahh is either emelec or barcelona, any mistakes and LDQ will take the left overs.
im guessing quito goali is fat so ecuador only has 10 teams? any plans for expanding the numbers? peru currently has 12 but next year there will be 14 i think the goal is 16 teams
Bingo! Really? I thought Peru already had around 16 teams. Which peruvian team has done the best in Copa libertadores?
Subcampeón 1972 Universitario 1997 Sporting Cristal Overall records and participation might be a better manner in which to answer the question, but here are the two runner-ups. Peru has obviously never won the final. 1972 looked like a good year for Peru. In the goal scorers list, three Peruvian club players led the way...all with six (6). See others... 1972 Teófilo CUBILLAS (PER) Alianza Lima (PER) 6 Oswaldo RAMÍREZ (PER) Universitario (PER) 6 Percy ROJAS (PER) Universitario (PER) 6 1975 Oswaldo RAMÍREZ (PER) Universitario (PER) 8 1978 Guillermo LA ROSA (PER) Alianza Lima (PER) 8 1979 Juan José ORÉ (PER) Universitario (PER) 6
if we judge for the participation in copa libertadores, money and fans, Barcelona and Emelec are by far the ones who take all the goodies, but LDUQ from Quito is closely following Barcelona and Emelec's steps, they got their own stadium, and lots of wealthy people from Quito support LDUQ, but in the end you can say they are left with the left overs, je, je
