Has anyone else receive a letter from MLSgear.com stating that their database has been hit with unauthorized access and personal information (credit card, etc) of customers is at risk?

To say they are sorry, they are giving free memberships for 1 year to something called IDTheftSmart. It provides continuous credit monitoring and help with identity theft restoration if necessary.

The problem I have with this is that they want me to send my personal info (ss#, date of birth, etc) to them via US mail.

If you received this letter (it looks official) would you sign on for this service?

I'm a little bit concerned, but I have not noticed any unusual activity on any of my credit/debit accounts.

If there is a thread elsewhere on BS discussing this could someone point me there?

It's true. I was reading articles about MLSGear getting hacked.

I posted the original link on MLS General :)

According to the article, they were indeed hacked about a year ago and your credit is at risk if you've purchased anything in the last year (and I'm guessing before that).

If they've offered credit protection I would take it... and I would change your credit card if you haven't already. We had some data hacked at work and my company got us Equifax Credit watch. I have not heard of IDTheftSmart, so I would do some research before signing up... you will need to give you SSN to anyone checking your credit.
