You come up with all these clever, witty chants, but you know very well all you'll sing is 'USA' over and over again.

Well most of us making these little chants up won't be going to the match. ;)

The reason most of us here dislike England so much is because anti-U.S. sentiment is high in not only England but all of Great Britain (and well, everywhere else) So ever since I've been on the internet (and not just at BigSoccer) I've seen plenty of US-bashing by Britons and I get really sick of it after a while. It seems like some people over there have nothing better to do than insult Americans all the time. I'm sure no one over there is actually upset that we won independence from you,but the fact is we're hated over there and I'm pretty sure that's when it all started. (maybe?)

So we'd really like a win over our biggest critics in their own sport.

They will have plenty of time to laugh when they are at home in June.

Last summer I went to a couple of the under 20 games and I was a fan of most of the chants we came up with at those games but I recall at the brazil game, sometime between our first and their first goal singing "brazil, its just like watching brazil, its just like watching brazil" (to the tune of blue moon) which although it is a commonly sung song at games, was particularly amusing due to the fact that we were beating brazil. If we get a similar situation, i feel like it would be fun to sing "CROATIA, its just like watching CROATIA," to the same tune but making no effort to fit Croatia's name to the tune and instead simply shouting it to emphasize the point. Also, i have heard from some english folk that people would be pretty pissed with "my country tis of thee" so be sure to sing that as well.

Exactly, the melody just happens to be that of "god save the queen." None of the English people who warned me of a hostile reaction to the song had any more knowledge of it than you (Prenn) did, all they needed to hear was the melody.

I don't think anyone could give a toss really. IIRC Luxembourg have the same melody in their national anthem.

    england fans in a nutshell:

    "Empire? Don't give a toss."
"Anthem references? Don't give a toss."
"Dentistry jokes? Don't give a toss."
    "EURO 2008? Don't give a toss."
"Soap songs? Don't give a toss."
"Queen references? Don't give a toss."
    "Friendlies? Don't give a toss."
"england vs. club? Don't give a toss about england."

Frankly, "Don't give a toss" seems to be the fan base motto.

(Although I think that I'm going to call bullshit on the anthem thing. Three **********cats has a teary-eyed video of england fans singing the anthem before a game linked to one of his pages. Come to think of it, I'm calling bullshit on not caring about the Euro. You seemed to care an awful lot right around the Croatia game. So really what comes down to is that you all like to diffuse any trash talk with "meh... we don't really care about that." Just know that it's starting to get overused.)

It's not that we don't care about Euro2008 it's just that any attempt to mock us for failing to qualify loses all effect when the opposing team isn't going to be there either.

I'd prefer to miss Euro2008 than have to play in the Gold Cup or whatever tournament you lot have to put up with.

Believe it or not; no the national anthem has a completly different melody. At one point their first national anthem was played to the melody of To Anacreon in Heaven which is the melody used to sing Francis Scott Key's poem The Defence of Fort McHenry which Americans know as the Star-Spangled Banner.

As a head's up the tune is also used as Norway's royal anthem entitled Kongesangen, the tune is still used as the national anthem of Liechtenstein, Oben am jungen Rhein.

    So you were close.

Understandably so, but the problem is at least we qualified as a power. One of the problems England fans can't grasp is that their league is great but that doesn't automatically translate over to the National Team.

Actually they can and do. The Prem is currently the top league in Europe and most probably the world, the same cannot be said of England.

And none of the top 4 had Steve McClaren managing them either.

"Yankee Doodle" would also be an appropriate song for this match.

With only two weeks to go , I think it would be a good idea to maybe agree on a few chants/songs and make a thread so that we can start to practice.

I see people putting ideas and suggestions... nothing on here says that theyll definitely be used. If we want to be heard, we'll need to be in unison.
