I really don't want to come in here late tonight and read a bunch of people talking about how the Metro support in 101 was dead during the game, or not cohesive, or incoherant (unless you're in the NJB, then incoherance at a match is expected). What greater honor can you think of than to come up with a song that becomes an Metro classic? Sing them - of course, it helps to know when. Doing 'the Great Escape' when its 5 minutes into a 0-0 tie at HOME is a little silly, no? Here, I'll start you off. Either bring your Wierd Al Yankovic smack to the park or stuff it. 101 was at it's best last night laughing at the Brits for smoking in the section and getting booted. If we can bring that spirit and energy to the game next week, it will be a good time. If you want in, learn a few songs. If you want to make some up, bust out your copy of "Now that's what I call music 9", get a pen, and wow us with your "mad skillz". Otherwise, quit posting (not just you, people in general) every little sardonic remark you can think of when someone is trying to be creative. I was up at 3 am last night writing songs for DC next week (I'll post them on Wednesday or so). Of course, caffeine had something to do with that, but it's about making an attempt. If 30% of our songs are good, we'll happily chuck the 70% that don't work and keep creating. The important thing is to try, not to sit idly by and piss on everyone else for giving it a shot.
Michael K. I wish every metro fan in that stadium would be singing along with you guys. I am in section 132 i could start singing but i would look stupid doing it alone. Now there were two guys with the drums going around the stadium, they stoped in our section and got everyone to say Let's Go Metro, it was realy cool and a great idea, i give this guys a lot of credit. We would need two of them in every section. They hand out those little programs at the entrance, they look exactly the same every game, no line up of the visiting team or up to the curent standings,results. It would be more effective to have just a flyer made up with possible lineup of the two teams, standings, and on the back side have the Metro songs . Give a guy a microphone and let him lead on the cheers and the songs .
I'll repeat what I wrote in the "Metros vs. Crapids" thread: "Who were those two guys marching around the stands beating the drums and yelling at all of us that we weren't making enough "noise." Get lost. I'll cheer when I have a reason to. So will everyone else. Go yell at the "fans" who didn't bother to come to the game." Let me add that maybe the lousy attendence had something to do with a paucity of "noise." Where the hell were all the MLS-only lovers. I dare those two jerks to show up at the Peru-Ecuador match on June 11 and tell us we're not making enough "noise." They better have life insurance. They hand out inserts inside the stadium at the top of the escalators which contain the information you're looking for (sans the chants, mercifully).
I didn't know if they were new/less familiar ESCers, LA12ers, or what... people round here seem to have a problem with them but what the ************, if they want to run around the stadium banging on drums and getting the people on the sides to cheer 'Lets go Metro', then let them go for it. On the one hand everyone says 'no one in the stadium makes any noise', the next, they're getting pissy because when someone does, it isn't the way THEY want the noise being made (and I realize I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth here, because horns make noise and I've criticized horns, but no one in their right mind likes the plastic horns). It's hard to have it both ways.
One of the drummers looked like former Metro Rob Johnson I say the drummers stay and the horns must go.
yeah, I'm cool with the drummers as long as their not playing for 90 mins straight. They're fine for getting the rest of the crowd going but we don't need/want them to lead chants in 101.

I didn't say I was up until 3 am writing, just that I happened to be writing at 3 am. I started at about 2:30am when it became obvious I couldn't fall asleep, but then again I didn't get home until 1 something anyway. I'm not a huge fan of printing out sheets either, and I'm not trying to get the Phillips chant machine cranking again, but if you don't put some time (30 minutes of insomnia time seems as good as any) into it, then you end up signing "we hate dc" in minute 19 of a 0-0 game against KC, which never struck me as horribly relevant. Some songs are spontaneous and just come to you during the game. Others you write on the couch, in the bathroom, while driving, whatever. I have spent hours "writing" all year in 10 minute increments, most of it in the car or shower listening to the radio trying to bend songs into Metro relevance. Sat night I yanked a pen out and tried to put some things down, not so differently than Mike did with the song that started this thread, I would imagine. Example, we need a Jamaican Ziadie song. Write one.
Agree. Plus, they only know the one song. It wouldn't kill them to pick up another chant or two. I don't care if they are 101 songs or not, come up with your own, but it's got to get tiring singing the one song for 90 minutes. And we don't need them in 101, but they can stay and play for a bit if they go along with us. I appreciate the added aguante, but I don't want them breaking up a song in the middle to start "let's go metro" for the 17th time.
i only have to say one thing, Metrofans Unite we should be One not 101 !!! jamison why so bitter, do i sense jelousy here, Come on guys , we need everyone who is willing to sing and chant and be a force. You guys should have ran to welcome those two and make them feel welcome and apreciated. You don't want them or anyone else to be your competition, it would even sound stupid to intrerupt one another, so what is the solution may one ask, very simple answer, Work Together, Unite !
he ain't jealous. those two had only one thing in mind: playing the "let's go metro" chant (actually it was a clumsy "let's go MetroStars" chant). The ESC prefers to mix it up a bit. Variety is the spice of life. btw, we did join in with those guys. But I found it annoying when we would already be singing and those guys came running down the steps banging a different beat.
well no one can ask more then to try, if you did that is good enough for me. looking at some of the chants and songs on the site I must say " we can't have our kids singing some of them" it is ok for you guys to say the f word and others like it, but can't expect kids,moms and families to join in. What is needed is one song to be the official metro song that everyone can learn and sing along.
no, the section is not for kids. I think we'd all like to have our own "you'll never walk alone" or "I'm forever blowing bubbles" but that kinda thing takes time. Right now the closest thing we have is the "Soy de Metro" medley, which we've been singing since year one. This thing we got going here is a work in progress. We'll get there someday.
I can't really give my opinion on the drummers because i wasn't there in person but i did hear them on the tele. Frankly, i thought it was cheesy. I don't know if there is really a need for "new" chants for the ESC but i think a little more variety would do the trick. And speaking of new....i wouldn't mind doing a 'you'll never walk alone' song either.
