I'm sorry if there is another thread like this, but I couldn't find it. Anyway... we all have those songs we don't seem to turn off, but don't really advocate to those around us that we like them. So, allow me to submit these. Or should I say, "Hi, my name is Mike, and I like these songs". "Weekend in New England"--Barry Manilow "Hold Me Now"--Thompson Twins "Church of the Poisoned Mind"--Culture Club "McArthur Park--Richard Harris "The Wanderer"--Donna Summer "I Can Help"--Billy Swan "FAith"--George Michael "Live To Tell"--Madonna
I'm not even strong enough to say it. My wife doesn't even know I like the song. My only hint - if you watch TV, you probably hear it every day right now. Just thinking about it makes me feel unworthy to listen to Oakenfold's newest CD. Unclean!
Errr.... .....ABBA and the Carpenters... But i shouldn't be embarrased with them, 'cause it's not righteous, right ?
Foos, would your guilty pleasure happen to be a TV theme song by The Rembrandts? I'll never admit it to anyone who actually knows me, but I really, really like Cheap Trick.
Nope. Car commercial. I'm not normally embarrased by liking the songs from car commercials (I dig Moby, Bare Naked Ladies, and Dirty Vegas, and I'm not ashamed to admit it), but this one is soul-crushing to even admit to myself that I like it.
"Genius of Love"? That's the only one I can think of which might provoke this kind of "soul-crushing" reaction.
I...uh....hate to admit that I like....Dashboard Confessional. But I like the music...*breathes deep*....that was rough. Oh yeah...and The Donnas....female AC/DC.
Ugh... I find myself enjoying Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body". I'm going to go hide in a corner now. Slightly less embarassing are ABBA's "Dancing Queen" and Nelly Furtado's "Like A Bird"
for as much as I've dogged all the little pop princesses and stuff.... Christina Aguilera "Fighter" (though I'm starting to dig the fact that she's really trying to be an individual and break the mold)
And rightly so. She wrecked a perfectly good Roy Orbison song with that cover. I like Cindy Lauper's version without shame though. It's Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler that I'm ashamed of ...
Get the "If I Were a Carpenter" tribute CD to ease your mind. It's hip. Um, Material Girl by Madonna.
Cyndi Lauper's version of the sobbing Celine Dion song was before Roy Orbison's.. I'm too dumb to be guilty about any song, so I gleefully have Hanson's "mmmbop" CD single in my car now along with proper music like Royksopp, Sigur Ros, The Sea And Cake, Madonna's American Life, Grant-Lee Phillips, Elliott Smith, new Live, etc...
I am not embarrassed, but my friends tell me that they are embarrassed for me... Nelly Furtado (all of her songs)... I also attended two of her concerts...
I can't think of anything now... but since we're in the confessional... I remember a while ago that I thought the White Lion version of "Radar Love" was better than the original! Oh... I thought of one. There's a song that came out a while ago by Lamya... "Empires" or something. I like it, but she keeps singing, "Bring me men!" Oh... and I REALLY dig most of the soundtrack to the Bollywood movie, Lagaan.
Bah. Here we go. I like Blink 182. Yeah, I have all their cd's. I even used to really believe that they were punk at one point.
