Anyone else like kava? It's weird. Like being drunk minus the fun part. I should have just got the beer at the gas station. Also gas stations scare me now. I found mad Honey edibles at my local corner store. Apparently you can just buy anything you want short of heroin at the gas station. Society might be better off if everyone switched to buying drugs at the gas station. That's how bad the ********ing supply is. I had to pay like $5 a Xanax to insure it's really Xanax and not some random research chemical from China.
Decided I could spend a bit today at the grocery store. I spent all the money on the new table, so I'm just drinking it out of my mug. Could've gotten an actual whiskey glass from the Studio Ghibli pop-up shop at Lotte Mall, but my new friend convinced me to get the beer glass instead cause it was slightly cheaper. Here's that with some carbonated soju in it: (Porco Rosso is my favorite Ghibli film cause it's the only one that feels like a coherent story. Plus, Miyazaki is much more explicit about what he thinks of fascism.)
Payday, so I got some bourbon. Wild Turkey, made the last time the Fire had a playoff appearance (aged 8 years). Ran into some students at McDonald's afterwards and I had to hide what was in my bag. I'd already done normal groceries earlier in the week, so it was just alcohol (found a few local craft beers and some decent Euro imports) and then a large container of croissants. The kids can never know I live like this.
Jiggs, we appreciate these updates and little glimpses into your adventures in South Korea. It took some guts to do this and you should be proud of yourself for making the leap. Keep the snippets coming. Are you studying Korean at the same time? All of my friends who have headed to SK to teach in their 20's regretted not becoming somewhat fluent while there. And don't let the students know you are human and a (semi)normal person. Keep the illusion going.
I am trying. I have one coworker who's really adamant on trying to get me to learn, but she only comes in once a week (she mainly works at another school). But I just haven't really had the time to learn. Tonight I went to play hockey for the first time (It's almost 1AM rn, I barely got back) and just could not skate at all. And I do wonder which I will learn first: Skating well enough to play or Korean well enough to have a conversation. I do need to learn Korean for my own selfish screenwriter reasons (I wanna write a script in Korean and try to sell it here), but it's just tough.
One of the convenience stores near me has a bunch of craft stuff, but I also got this. Day off tomorrow for May Day, so I'm staying up a bit later.
Did door dash all day. So at gas station I grabbed like 10 50 cent beers at the circle k. I then lost one under my car seat and moved them. When I got home I couldn't find the beer right away. My mind went crazy thinking I gave beer to a kid or something. Fortunately or not I found them. So just a big kid at heart. Speaking of hearts this is bad Right?
Went out to an Oasis themed bar with some Scotsmen after the Incheon game. We literally saw the bar owner on yhe train back, asked if he was opening up, then followed him in. Got free shots for the win. They also had Sam Adams. I accidentally paid way too much for a shot of Henny (I pointed at the wrong bottle). Also, bonus Jarritos cause I'm just really happy I can (technically) find it here.
The Redbull only last so long Had to pit stop after 500mi…got 250 to go, so 1 low alcohol Founders AllDayIPA and a burger before all the kitchens close…and then we’ll see if it gives me a second wind or it’s just time to find a hotel and do the rest in the morn
Unforgivable that this thread dropped to page 2. Enjoying a few 90 Shillings, after having two delicious Old Speckled Hen.
In Madison for a very important meeting tomorrow. Stopped at Prost! a German beer hall a block from the Capitol. It's an old church converted into a beer hall. Munich Monday. $5.00 .5L of Hacker-Pshorr Munich Dunkel and $5.00 pretzel with house made beer cheese. It does not get much better.
Went up to Hongdae to go see a maid cafe in person. Was very much whelmed, it was what I pretty much expected, which wasn't much (it's an anime thing, I just needed to experience it so I knew how to write about it). Was happy they had some alcohol, but I accidentally ordered a tequila highball. So I walked out a bit disappointed and was just looking for anyplace that had beer. And I feel like I found heaven. I just saw a place with a sign that had "craft beer" on it and decided to walk in. The moment I walk in to the stairs up to the place, the entire stairwell was filled with all the international beer awards they'd won, with the first one I saw being about one of their heffeweizens. So I get upstairs, order a flight, and damn if it ain't exactly what I needed. Some good stuff, even got a few cans to take home with me. And in the corner of this image, you'll see a Dortmund jersey outside a storefront. I went in there, found a bunch of vintage NFL jerseys, and now I'm back to being very careful about my budget for the rest of the month because I just had to get an Eddie Lacy jersey. Anyway, the beer place is called "Art Monster". If you ever find yourself in Hongdae (Seoul), I recommend the "Itaewon Freedom". It's similar to, if you've ever had it, the Raspberry Party Pillow from Buckledown Brewing.
Was told that I needed to celebrate Barlow's hat trick, so I went out for ice cream and came home with a bottle of (relatively) cheap Canadian whiskey. So if anyone's heard of "Forty Creek", I got that. Honestly reminds me more of sacramental wine than whiskey.
