http://thelagalaxy.blogspot.com/2008/02/whos-back-and-whos-not.html With preseason training camp opening on Monday, here is the latest list of players on the 2008 preseason roster. Goalkeepers- Steve Cronin, Charles Alamo Defenders- Kelly Gray, Ty Harden, Ante Jazic, Mike Randolph, Troy Roberts, Abel Xavier, Julian Valentin, Greg Folk, Sean Franklin, Michael Gavin, Midfielders- David Beckham, Kyle Martino, Kevin Harmse, Chris Klein, Quavas Kirk, Josh Tudela, Peter Vagenas, Brandon McDonald, Matt Hatzke, Daniel DeGeer, Elly Allen Forwards- Edson Buddle, Landon Donovan, Alan Gordon, Carlos Ruiz, Israel Sesay Interesting things to me: 1) Gray listed as defender 2) No Babayaro yet 3) X is expected to be there 4. Kirk is listed as midfielder, I think now's the time to experiment with him at outside back. 5. Klein listed as a midfielder. Listed positions don't mean much, probably.
First, I'm glad to see the blog supply us with some useful information. Good job guys (although there's only one "l" in Ely) It's good that X is back. I think Kirk is in a difficult position. If they thought he could play at right back there wouldn't have been such a need to draft Franklin. But once he gets off Generation Adidas, he makes too much money to be a backup. I guess they could renegotiate his salary though, since he'll have completed four years at the end of this year. I think if he's going to stay on the team in the long run he's going to have to win a job on the right side of the midfield.
I thought it was interesting that Vagenas is still on the roster. I thought someone mentioned that his contract was over and not re-signed.
I wonder if anything will/has come of that rumor that the Galaxy were trying to get Tally Hall back in the US? He's with the U-23's right now. Also, Randolph is expected on Monday - I thought he was with the U-23's in Florida? Also, I think it's good news that Cronin is with the USMNT still. He must have made the travel roster. Edit: I'm wrong - he didn't make the roster for Mexico in Houston...http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_5177348.html Good to see the blog in action :
It's still OK. Our transfer window goes until April. In any case, he's out of contract so I don't think the transfer window applies anyway.
There's a rumor in the Uk that a former Southend United (Coca-Cola league Division 1) player called David Cowley has signed for the Galaxy, does anybody know anything about this. Tried looking him up but can't seem to find anything!!!
I stand corrected. My understanding was that it applied to all international transactions. Thank You.
According to Google he plays a mean oboe, although I don't think that's the guy we're interested in. He's also a 20-year-old left winger who was released this year from Southend United (3rd tier). So, right position, uninspiring background. The only report of this rumor that I saw was by someone who claimed to work with his Aunt. Also, the nickname of Southend United is the "Shrimpers". I had no idea that you could catch shrimp in England; unless they're referring to the toe-sucking practice in which case I really don't want to know more. The Galaxy blog reported that they were going to have several "invitees" to camp this week. It wouldn't surprise me if he was one of them.
Harmse is already in mid-season 'enforcer' form. Got in a fight and ejected on the weekend as a Cdn B team took on a Danish side in Florida.
The first report on practice that I've seen so far... http://www.soccerpubs.com/boards/index.php?s=&showtopic=25733&view=findpost&p=498232 (A member of the Riot Squad over on the Riot Squad boards) Says Ruiz was suited up but didn't really participate.
And he's got pics with lots of players and Ruud and red headed clown... http://www.soccerpubs.com/boards/index.php?s=&showtopic=25733&view=findpost&p=498259
hahaha, this is ridiculous. i guess every team needs at least one 'enforcer'. especially us- we need someone to protect becks and donovan because we don't want them retaliating for a hard tackle or something.
Gray is a defender... LA was playing him out of position (though he's played both). Looks like you're ahead of FC Dallas in that he showed up. You'll probably need to get used to the lack of participation though.
Some more great info here: http://www.insidesocal.com/soccer/2008/02/galaxy_chivas_usa_open_camp_us.html babayaro is official too.
